Badger athletes earn SLC recognition

All-Southern Lakes Conference awards were issued last week for spring sports. Several Lake Geneva Badger athletes were recognized. Badger golf led the way with four of its top players being recognized and with Luke Bourneuf being named SLC Athlete of the Year for golf.

The Badgers won the SLC title, the WIAA regional they hosted at Geneva National on May 23, the Watertown sectional on May 31 and placed ninth out of 16 teams at the state meet at University Ridge in Madison on June 6 and 7.

Badger shot 310 in the first round and 324 in the second round for a total of 634 at the state meet. Marquette University School won the state title with a score of 598. Bourneuf led the way for Badger with a two-day total of 154. Jonathon Duggan added a 158, Jackson Rademaker carded a 159, and Connor Duggan shot 165. Blake Wisdom shot 170.

For the season, two of Badger’s top five players earned first-team honors, including Bourneuf and Connor Duggan. Wisdom was named second team and Rademaker was given honorable mention.

The Badger tennis team had a successful season as well also winning the SLC title. The Badgers won the WIAA sub-sectional they hosted on May 23 and 24 and Mason Sniatynski qualified for the WIAA state tournament on June 2 and 3 in Madison. Sniatynski (20-5) defeated Imran Mian of Ashwaubenon (11-12) in his first match 3-6, 6-2, (5). He lost his second match to Xavier Sanga (19-5) of Middleton 6-1, 6-1.

Sniatynski was named SLC Athlete of the Year for tennis along with earning first-team honors. The doubles team of Peter Merry and Avaish Pirzada was also named to the first team. Arhum Zafar was named to the second team for singles and Josh Bakken was given honorable mention.

The boys’ track team won the SLC title and the WIAA regional on May 23. James Bowen was given honorable mention.

Badger baseball had three players recognized. Infielder Brady Fields and outfielder Tyler Love were named to the second team, and outfielder Mason DuMez was given honorable mention.

Shortstop Cayleen Ryan was named to the second team for softball. Pitcher and infielder Kaitlyn McManus was given honorable mention.

Brittany Gestrich and Alyssa Borkowski earned second-team honors for soccer. Ailsa Freytag was given honorable mention.
