The Badger High School baseball team lost twice last week to Waterford. The Badgers also lost a non-conference matchup with Kenosha Bradford.
Badger traveled to Waterford on May 3 and fell behind 3-0 after two innings. The Badgers scored a single run in the fourth but that was all the offense could muster in a 6-1 loss. The Wolverines put the game away with three runs in the fifth inning.
Waterford’s Anthony Ray held the Badgers to three hits and the one run over six innings of work to get the win. Mason DuMez, Trace LaDu and Austin Gallo had the three Badger hits. Gallo got the lone RBI.
Badger lost the re-match at home May 5 by a score of 14-7. While the Badger offense did much better against Wolverine pitching with 11 hits, the Wolverine offense got 18 hits off of three Badger pitchers – Gallo, Brady Fields and Tanner Fields.
Badger took a 1-0 lead in the first but Waterford scored four in the third. Badger answered back with three in its half of the third to tie the score at four. Each team scored once in the fourth, Waterford scored once in the sixth, and Badger took the lead with two in the bottom of the sixth. Unfortunately Waterford exploded for eight runs in the top of the seventh to steal the win.
Matt Korman led Waterford (14-2, 10-0 Southern Lakes Conference) with two hits, one of them a homerun, and four RBIs. Matt Wezyk had four hits and three RBIs. Ryan Jungbauer and Tyler Terrian each had three hits. Tyler Love led the Badgers with four hits. Gallo and Philip Kutsch each had two RBIs.
Badger lost at Kenosha Bradford 6-4 on May 6. The Badgers (3-11, 2-7) scored first with a single run in the first then added three more in the second off of winning pitcher Brandon Brewer. Isaac Lawler and Matthew Barth came on in relief for Bradford and shut the Badgers down. Meanwhile, Braford erupted for six runs in the fourth inning to take the lead off of Badger’s Brady Fields.
Tyler Love had three hits for Badger, one of them a double. DuMez had one hit, a triple, and three RBIs.
Softball drops three
The Badger softball team lost three times last week.
The Badgers (0-15, 0-11) lost a non-conference game at home to East Troy 14-1 on May 2. The Trojans (7-6) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Badger cut that lead in half with a single run in the bottom of the first but could not score again. East Troy scored one in the second, two in the third, two in the fifth, and seven in the sixth to pull away with the win. Badger was held to three hits, two of them by Suzie Condos.
Badger lost to Waterford (6-12, 3-8) 4-3 on May 5 on senior night. Waterford scored twice in the first. Badger again cut the deficit in half with a single run in its half of the first and this time tied it up with another run in the third. The Wolverines scored twice in the fourth. Badger cut that deficit in half with a single run in the sixth but could do no more.
Cayleen Ryan led the Badgers with two solo home runs, two walks and three runs scored. Kiley Johnson also had two hits.
Badger lost to Wilmot in a suspended game on May 6. The game was started on April 27 but suspended due to rain. The game resumed with Badger already down 11-1 and things did not get much better. The Badger offense managed to score five more runs, but the Panthers (10-7, 6-5) scored 13 in the fourth to win 27-6.
Soccer drops two
The Badger soccer team earned a 2-1 home win over Delavan-Darien (3-6-1, 0-2) on May 3. Sammi DiVito scored on an assist by Madison Zukowski. Brittany Gestrich gave the Badgers a 2-0 lead in the second half on a goal assisted by Nicole Ritzman. The Comets drew within one goal when Suleimy Perez scored on a penalty kick.
Badger lost at Westosha Central 2-1 on May 5. The Falcons (4-5-3, 1-2) got on the scoreboard first on a goal by Stephanie Dopuch. Gestrich tied it with an assist from Madison McClenathen. Anneliese Ceisel scored the game-winning goal for the Falcons.
Badger lost at Kenosha Tremper 2-0 on May 6. Tremper (5-4-4) outshot the Badgers 12-4 and got two goals from Jen Wendling. Both were assisted by Janelle Caira.
