Badger football falls to Wilmot

Soccer wins two

The Lake Geneva Badger football team lost a showdown at Wilmot 14-0 last Friday. The loss dropped the Badgers into a three-way tie for second place in the Southern Lakes Conference with the Panthers and Union Grove, all at 3-1. Waterford leads the SLC at 4-0.

The Wilmot defense did a job on the Badgers holding them to 98 total yards, just 68 on the ground on 34 attempts. The Panthers gained 212 total yards, 141 of them on the ground. Wilmot won the time of possession battle controlling the ball for 28:11. Badger had the ball for 19:49.

After a scoreless first quarter, Wilmot took a 7-0 lead on a 43-yard touchdown pass from A.J. Frisby to Christian Jannsen. Wilmot scored again in the fourth quarter on a one-yard run by Frisby.

Tyler VanDeVelde led the Badgers with 51 yards rushing on 11 carries. Mason Dumez added 26 on just four carries as he split duties with Isaac Ziervogel at quarterback. Dumez also completed three of five passes for 25 yards. Ziervogel was bottled up for a negative 22 yards rushing on 11 attempts and completed one of six passes for five yards.

Robert Brent led the Panthers (5-1, 3-1) with 59 yards rushing. Mason Nindl added 38. Frisby only rushed for nine yards on 15 attempts but completed five passes for 71 yards and was involved in both Panther touchdowns.

Badger (4-2, 3-1) hosts Elkhorn in its homecoming game Friday. Elkhorn (1-5, 0-4) is coming off a home 27-7 loss to Union Grove.

 

Soccer takes two

The Badger soccer team won two games last week. The Badgers defeated Union Grove on the road 6-1 on Sept. 22. Badger took control with five first half goals, three of them by Will Hamilton (one unassisted, two assisted by Payton Aranda). Ruben Aranda (assist by Payton Aranda) and Payton Aranda (assist by Hamilton) scored the other two. Colin Killberg scored the only goal for Union Grove (5-7, 2-2 SLC) on a penalty kick. Hamilton scored his fourth goal of the game on another assist by Payton Aranda to close out the scoring. Badger outshot the Broncos 13-6.

The Badgers (10-4, 4-0) beat Wilmot on the road 6-0 on Sept. 24. Hamilton had two more goals on assists by Payton Aranda and Jordan Patino. Payton Aranda also scored twice on assists by Aidan Kokodynski and Eduardo Cruz. Ruben Aranda and Ulises Escobar scored the other two goals, both unassisted. Badger outshot the Panthers 17-1.

Swim team wins

The Badger coop swim team won the Kenosha Bradford Red Devil Invitational on Saturday with a top score of 637.50. Kenosha Tremper finished second with 514.50.

First place finishes were turned in by the 200 yard medley relay team of Cora Rafe, Katelyn O’Brien, Molly Dover, and Natalie Stratton (1:53.75) and by Rafe in the 100 yard backstroke (59.16). Other top finished included:

  • 200-yard freestyle – Theresa VanSchyndel, second (2:02.68)
  • 200-yard individual medley – Rafe, second (2:12.28)
  • 200-yard freestyle relay – Stratton, Dover, Wember, VanSchyndel, second (1:47.15)
  • 100-yard breaststroke – O’Brien, second (1:10.72); Rylee Kennell, fifth (1:13.79);
  • 400-yard freestyle relay – VanSchyndel, Wember, O’Brien, Rafe, second (3:53.07)
  • 50-yard freestyle: Stratton, third (26.58)
  • 100-yard freestyle: Stratton, third (58.19); Eden Wember, fifth (59.49)
  • 500-yard freestyle: Claire Koeppel, fifth (5:38.69)
