Boys basketball loses to Elkhorn

The Badger High School wrestlers took second place at the Badger Invitational last Saturday with 278.5 points. Milton won the invitational with 346.5.
Individual champions included Alex Martinez at 113 pounds and Andrew Cychner at 182. Martinez (24-4) scored 34 team points by winning all five of his matches. He defeated Antoine Bierny of Homestead by fall, Bryan Beatty of Kettle Moraine by fall, Phillip Berge of Sun Prairie by decision (4-3), and Aaron Daly of Menomonee Falls by decision (8-7) before beating Levi Garrett of Milton by decision (5-2) in the championship round.
Cychner (21-1) scored 32 team points by defeating Jacob Wedesky of Kettle Moraine by fall, John McCarthy of Milton by decision (4-0), and Cody Rider of Iowa Grant by decision (16-10) before beating Forrest Hawkinson by decision (8-5) of Sun Prairie in the championship round.
Other top finishers for Badger included Zach Leonard at 138 pounds (third, 25 points), and Michael Peter at 120 pounds (fourth, 20 points). Several Badgers including Robby Mutimer (4-1 at 113 pounds), Chase Craig (7-5 at 126), Sam Carmona (13-15 at 132), Tony Howard (20-7 at 152), Tristan Steiner (15-8 at 160), Reggie Kelly (10-6 at 195), and Andrew Nugent (12-16 at 285) finished fifth.
The Badgers host Waterford tonight.
Boys fall to Elks
The Badger boys basketball team fell to Elkhorn (5-7, 3-4 Southern Lakes Conference) 54-45 last Friday.
Elkhorn won every quarter but never by more than three points. Elkhorn led 9-8 at the end of one and gradually increased its lead the rest of the way. The Elks led at the half 24-20 and 37-31 at the end of three.
Derrick Buntrock led Badger (5-5 (2-3 SLC) with 15 points. Jake Kozlowski chipped in 12. No one else had more than six. Elkhorn was led by Arik Anderson’s 14 points. Joe Konopski and Cody Johnson contributed 12 points each.
Badger played at Waterford on Tuesday and host Wilmot tomorrow night. The Badgers will also host Watertown on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
The Badger girls were back in action on Tuesday at home against Kenosha Tremper and travel to Waterford tonight. They also host Fort Atkinson on Saturday at 4:15 p.m. and Wilmot next Tuesday.
Swim wins three
The Badger swim team defeated Delavan-Darien 110-60 on Jan. 9.
Individual first-place finishers were:
• Andrew Shane in the 50-yard freestyle (23.80), the 100-yard freestyle (51.75) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:39.10);
• Remy Glogovsky in the 200-yard individual medley (2:13.88) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.03);
• Alex Kulik in the 200-yard freestyle (2:08.82) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:55.56); and
• Tom Ritzman in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.39).
Badger relay teams also took first in the 200-yard medley (1:52.70) and the 400-yard freestyle (3:51.57).
The Badgers defeated Platteville/Lancaster 106-64 and Burlington 111-59 last Friday in a dual meet.
Individual first-place finishers for Badger were:
• Remy Gologovsky in the 200-yard individual medley (2:26.38) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:29.88);
• March Gibbs in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.30); and
• R.J. Szweda in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.42).
The Badger 200-yard medley (1:47.20) and 400-yard freestyle (3:36.97) relay teams also finished first.
Other top finishes included Szweda and Alex Kulik in the 200-yard freestyle (second and third; 2:04.93, 2:08.13), Tom Ritzman in the 200-yard individual medley (second, 2:23.92), Andrew Shane in the 50-yard freestyle (second, 23.75) and the 100-yard freestyle (second, 51.32), Jimmy Corpus in the 100-yard butterfly (second, 1:06.20), and the 200-yard freestyle relay team (second, 1:42.10).
