Lake Geneva beats Elkhorn, Delavan-Darien

Badger High School baseball improved to 10-2 overall and 8-1 in Southern Lakes Conference last week and is now alone in first place in the SLC.
Badger started the week by defeating Elkhorn 10-0 on April 29. The Badgers took command early, scoring seven runs in the first three innings and then scored three more in the sixth. An RBI double by Peter Krien and an RBI single by Jonah Zeinert started the offense in the first inning. Colton Andresen went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Gunner Losch also went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Eric Skipper had two RBIs.
Ian Weber kept the Elks (2-5, 1-5 SLC) off the scoreboard with a two-hit shutout.
Badger swept two games from Delavan-Darien. The Badgers routed the Comets 12-1 on April 30. Badger again got off to a quick start on offense scoring six runs in the first three innings and then six more in the last two. An RBI single by Trent Bobula in the first inning got the Badgers started. An RBI double by Mitch Jensen and a sacrifice fly by Travis Stahulak in the second inning added on. Jensen ended up with four RBIs on the day. Derek Denecke went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Stahulak, who was named co-player of the week by Wissports.net for throwing a no-hitter against Elkhorn two weeks ago, held the Comets to six hits and one run over six innings for the win.
The rematch against the Comets (3-8, 1-6) was closer as the Badgers won 4-2 on May 2. D-DHS took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second but the Badgers scored four in the top of the fifth on an RBI double by Zeinert and three singles.
Andresen got the win giving up four hits and no earned runs.
Tennis team wins three
The Badger tennis team improved to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in the Southern Lakes Conference with three wins last week.
Badger beat Fort Atkinson 6-1 on April 27. Singles winners included Liam Bailey (6-2, 7-5), Dan Weiner (7-5, 6-0), and Eric Heinz (6-0, 6-0). The doubles teams of Max Gilbertson and Riley Nocek (6-2, 6-2), Adam Smith and Connor Schaid (6-0, 6-4), and Alex Kulik and Michael Cordes (6-1, 6-1) all won as well.
Badger beat Janesville Craig 5-2 on April 27. Bailey (1-6, 6-0, 10-7), Weiner (6-3, 6-1), and Heinz (6-0, 6-0) won their singles matches. Gilbertson and Nocek (6-2, 6-3) and Kulik and Cordes (6-1, 6-1) won their doubles matches.
Badger beat Burlington 4-3 on April 30. Weiner (6-2, 6-0) and Heinz (7-6, 6-0) won their singles matches. Schaid and Cordes (6-0, 6-4) and Kulik and Josh Bakken won their doubles matches.
Track takes third, fourth
The Badger girls’ track team took third at the Demon Invitational in Burlington on May 4 with 95 points. Janesville Craig won the invite with 148.50 points.

• high jump – Allison Paleka, fourth, 4-08.00;
• long jump – Paleka, second, 16-01.00; and
• discus throw – Maddie Gerken, fifth, 86-03.
The Badger boys took fourth at the invite with 84 points. Menominee Falls won the invite with 138.50 points.

Softball drops three
The Badger softball team dropped to 2-8 overall and 1-6 in conference with losses to Delavan-Darien and Waterford.
The Badgers were swept by D-DHS (7-5, 3-5) in a double-header on April 30. Badger lost Game One 10-2. The Comets took a 3-1 lead after two innings and held it until scoring two in the fifth and five in the sixth to put the game away. D-DHS out-hit the Badgers 13-5 and Badger committed three errors.
Frankie Bobula led the Badgers with a walk, a run scored and an RBI.
The Comets won Game Two 6-3. Badger got on the scoreboard first with a single run in the top of the first, but the Comets answered with five runs in their half of the inning. Badger scored twice in the fourth to draw within 5-3 but could get no closer. D-DHS added a single run in the fifth.
Bobula went 3-for-4 with a run scored, and Paige Stan went 2-for-4 with a single and a double and a run scored. Caitlyn Nugent and Lily Quinn had the two Badger RBIs.
Badger dropped a hard-fought 7-0 decision to Waterford (10-2, 6-1) on May 2. The Wolverines led 1-0 through five innings but erupted for six runs in the bottom of the sixth aided by four total Badger errors in the game. Badger managed just three hits by Stan, Jamie Mikrut and Alicia Nielsen. Molly Schumacher was the hard-luck loser pitching six strong innings and surrendering just two earned runs.
The Badgers finished 16th at the Geneva National Invitational on April 29 with a team score of 375. Verona won the event with a 321. Keith Schwefel carded the low score for Badger with an 88.
