It took five sets for the Elkhorn Area High School girls volleyball team’s season to come to a close.

The Elks lost in a five-set upset to Wilmot Oct. 26 in a WIAA Division 2 regional final at Elkhorn Area High School.

Elkhorn advanced to the regional final after beating Oregon in three sets Oct. 24 at Elkhorn.

Elkhorn was seeded third in its postseason bracket. Oregon was seeded 14th and Wilmot is seeded sixth.

Wilmot will play second-seeded Janesville Parker tonight at Burlington in a sectional semifinal. The winner plays either No. 1-seeded Burlington or fifth-seeded Fort Atkinson Nov. 2 at Burlington in a sectional final.

Burlington and Fort play tonight at Burlington. The winner of the sectional advances to the WIAA Division 1 Girls Volleyball State Tournament Nov. 7-9 at the Resch Center in Green Bay.

Elkhorn lost the first set 25-22 against Wilmot before winning the second 25-17 and third 25-13. The Elks lost the fourth set 26-24 and lost the fifth 15-11.

“By the time the fifth set came we lost a lot of momentum and we struggled putting multiple points together,” Elks coach Justin Diderrick said.
