Drew Davey finished 15th and led the Elkhorn Area High School boys cross country team to a third-place finish Sept. 28 in the Pete Nielsen Laser Relays Sept. 22 at Naga-Waukee Park in Delafield.
The Elkhorn girls finished fourth. Both squads competed in the small schools division. Kettle Moraine High School hosts the Nielsen Relays.
Davey posted a team-best time of 17:26 in the 5,000-meyer varsity boys run.
“Drew Davey led the boys team with a solid effort in a strong field,” Elks coach Randi Wulf said. “Drew has been training hard, which will show as the season comes to an end.”
Wulf said Riley Buchheit and Alex Huerta used a strong finish to run a great race for the varsity team, and praised freshman Sam Manak for breaking the 20-minute-mark for the first time.
Buchheit finished in 18:11, good for 33rd place. Erik Johnson finished in 19:09 and Huerta crossed the finish line in 19:38. Ian Fletcher ran the race in 19:52. Manak finished in an even 20 minutes.
Richardson covered the course in 21:24 and finished 35th in the girls 5,000-meter race.
“Gwen is getting healthy at the right part of the season,” Wulf said.
