The Elkhorn Area High School boys and girls cross country teams each turned in strong performances Oct. 5 in the Falcon Invite at Fox River Park in Burlington.
The boys finished fifth and the girls came in seventh.
Elkhorn races Saturday in the Southern Lakes Conference Varsity Meet at Badger High School in Lake Geneva. Coach Randi Wulf said the Elks used the Falcon Invite as a tune-up for conference.
Derek Davey and Caleb Hembree each registered top 10 finishes for the Elks.
Davey finished seventh on the five kilometer course in 17:32. Hembree finished eighth (17:40).
Coach Randi Wulf said Davey is coming on strong as he approaches the end of his senior year. Wulf said Justin Pflanzer, Cael Stever and Cooper Wachs ran the best times of their cross country careers.
Ben Teuscher finished 28th (18:23), Sam Contreras finished 36th (18:41) and Peyton Sanders came in 42nd (19:00).
Gwen Richardson led the Elkhorn girls, finishing the five-kilometer course in 21:34.
“Gwen had a great night, running a solid race despite not being totally healthy,” Wulf said. “Kassie Thompson ran her best time of the season, and is starting round back into form.”
Piper Sleider finished 33rd (22:57). Alex Moreno finished 47th (23:39), Bailey Plant finished 50th (23:40) and Shannon Wulf came in 59th (24:29). Thompson came in 60th (24:30).
Kenosha Indian Trail’s Madison Taylor won the girls race (19:24). Indian Trail’s Trey Meier won the boys race (17:02).
Indian Trail won the boys team title and East Troy won the girls team title.
