Swimmers take fourth at Norski

The Elkhorn Area High School girls swim team finished fourth in the White Meet Aug. 26 in the Norski Invite at DeForest High School, and opened the season Aug. 24 with a top-three finish in the Southern Lakes Conference Relays.

The Elks are off until Sept. 9, when they compete in the Elk Invite at Elkhorn Area High School.

The Norski consists of three separate meets – Blue, Red and White. Each team’s fastest swimmers are in the Blue Meet, the second-fastest are in the Red Meet, and the third-fastest are in the White Meet.

Elkhorn finished fourth in the White Meet, and sixth in the Red and Blue Meets.

Sarah Broga finished second in the 100-yard freestyle in the White Meet in 1:03.46 and Allison Schopf finished second in the 100 butterfly in the White Meet (1:11.88).

Kaylee Dodge, Nicole Plenty, Megan Weinstock and Jamie Strey finished third in the 200 medley relay in the White Meet (2:21.30).

Emma Olson finished third in the 100 freestyle (1:02.91) in the Blue Meet. Schopf, Lillie Cauffman, Danielle Draugelis and Plenty finished third in the 200 freestyle relay in the White Meet.

Elkhorn scored 43 points in the White Meet. Sauk Prairie won with 76. The Elks scored 26 points in the Red Meet and 20 points in the White Meet. DeForest won the Red Meet (84) and McFarland won the Blue Meet (82).

The Elks finished third in the Southern Lakes Conference Relays by 13 points. Elkhorn finished with 177 points. Badger finished second (190) and Burlington Co-op won the title (212).

Olson, Schopf, Broga and Anna Manak won the 100 freestyle relay (51.15). Dodge, Schopf, Cailin Jacobs and Olson finished third in the 400 backstroke relay (4:46.68).

Megan Weinstock, Olivia Moore, Plenty and Alyssa Ambrose finished fourth in the 400 breaststroke relay (5:47.00) and Olson, Amanda Papenfus, Broga and Olson finished fourth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:51.74).

Jacobs, Ambrose, Sydney Balboni and Manak finished fourth in the 200 medley relay (2:08.30) and Weinstock, Dodge, Balboni and Jacobs finished fourth in the 400 individual medley (5:07.25).

In the team standings, Whitewater finished fourth (171), Jefferson-Cambridge fifth (166), Edgerton sixth (136), Platteville/Lancaster seventh (116) and Delavan-Darien eighth (93).
