Swimmers achieve personal bests

The Elkhorn Area High School boys swimming team posted 30 personal best times and finished fourth Jan. 20 in the Bradford Boys Invitational at Kenosha Bradford High School.

Elkhorn competed Monday in a Southern Lakes Conference meet against Jefferson/Cambridge at Jefferson High School.

The Elks swim Saturday in an invitational at Case High School in Racine.

“I think they did pretty well,” coach Jamie Richardson said of the Elks’ performance at Bradford. “I wasn’t sure what to expect – we haven’t seen some of these teams yet this year. I was really pleased.”

Hunter Johnson finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.83 and fifth in the 100 freestyle (52.19).

Brevin Kruse finished sixth in the 100 backstroke (59.86) and dropped under one minute, which Richardson said is a milestone time.

“He’s such a hard worker,” Richardson said. “I know he’s been waiting for this to happen. It was pretty exciting.”

Logan Radlein finished seventh in the 100 butterfly (1:00.08) and Willy Pinnow finished eighth in the 500 freestyle (5:14.85).

Radlein, Lucas Koepke, Pinnow and Hunter Johnson finished seventh in the 400 freestyle relay (3:43.02).

Kruse, Alex Johnson, Radlein and Derek Gauger finished ninth in the 200 medley relay (1:52.26).

Gauger, Ben Davis, Koepke and Hunter Johnson finished eighth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:39.15).

Pinnow finished eighth in the 100 backstroke (1:01,72). Radlein finished ninth in the 200 individual medley (2:13.41) and Kruse finished 10th (2:21.74).

Richardson said Gauger performed well in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. He finished 12th in the 100 backstroke (1:02.80) and dropped .27 seconds.

Gauger finished 14th in the 100 butterfly (1:03.94) and dropped 3.69 seconds. Gauger posted personal bests in each event.

Danny Bush dropped 2.93 seconds and finished 14th (1:03.70) in the 100 backstroke. Bush dropped 3.21 seconds and finished 22nd (2:07.62) in the 200 freestyle.
