The Elkhorn Area High School boys soccer team routed two opponents last week in Southern Lakes Conference play.

Elkhorn won 6-0 Oct. 1 in a Southern Lakes Conference match at Burlington and beat Badger 5-0 Sept. 29 in a SLC match at home.

The Elks (13-1-1, 6-1 SLC) played Badger Tuesday at home in the opening round of the SLC Tournament.

Elkhorn played a non-conference match yesterday at Arrowhead (12-2-0) and plays another non-conference match Saturday at Muskego (3-4-8).

“We’re just a better team,” Elks coach BZ Kayser said of the match vs. Burlington. “That’s just it right now. They couldn’t handle us. I think they had one shot the whole game.”

Kayser said he subbed-out all of his players at the match’s 60 minute mark, and the reserves still scored a goal and had more possession than the Demons (4-10-2, 0-6 SLC).

The Elks led 2-0 at halftime and scored four goals in the second half. Leo Loredo scored two goals and Bryant Romero, Kevin Romero, Danny Stilling and Adam Reigle scored one for the Elks.

Against Badger (10-3-2, 4-1-2 SLC) the Elks played what Kayser said is their best match of the season, so far.

“That’s the good thing – we played well,” Kayser said. “Every game, we’re creating scoring opportunities, but we put them away finally. We put the ball in the back of the net.”

Kayser said the Elks didn’t create more scoring chances than usual against Badger, but did say the Elks finally turned those chances into points by scoring.

Elkhorn led Badger 3-0 at the half. Kevin Romero scored two goals for the Elks. Vince Umnus, Sid Babu and Luke Umnus also scored for the Elks.

Union Grove (8-5-3, 3-3-1 SLC) played Delavan-Darien (17-1-1, 6-0-1 SLC) Tuesday in the other semifinal match of the SLC Tournament. The winners play Oct. 11 at the pitch of the higher seed.

Elkhorn is seeded second, Badger third and Union Grove fourth. Delavan-Darien is the No. 1 seed.
