Elkhorn turned in its best round of the season Sept. 1 in a girls high school golf meet at home against Southern Lakes Conference foe Waterford.
The Elks posted a 215 to the Wolverines’ 184 over nine holes on Evergreen Country Club’s East Course.
Elkhorn played Badger in a SLC meet Tuesday at Hawk’s View Golf Course in Lake Geneva. The Elks play Union Grove Sept. 13 in a SLC match at Ives Grove Golf Links in Sturtevant.
The drop in the Elks’ score from their previous matches impressed coach Steve Fisher. Elkhorn lost 207-253 Aug. 25 to Wilmot in a SLC dual meet at Twin Lakes Country Club.
“We were going to have tough time against Waterford, because they’re really good,” Fisher said. “For us, it’s about competing and trying to improve, and we did.”
Waterford is among the SLC’s elite this season, and is one of the better teams in southeast Wisconsin.
Jena Jacobs and Ryley Rand led the Elks with 51s against the Wolverines. Carlie Hanson carded a 52 and Rachel DeVries finished at 61. Emma Wolman posted a 63.
Taitum Beck scored a 39 for the Wolverines. Aubrie Torhorst and Maddy Anderson shot 48s and Jenna Ritzman carded a 49. Lauren Torhorst finished at 51.
Fisher said some of the Elks expressed displeasure with their score.
“It is a good thing that a few of the girls were disappointed in their scores,” Fisher said. “It shows they want to improve.
“It’s hard to be disappointed when you come down that many strokes from the week before.”
