The Elkhorn Area High School boys golf team posted a season-low team score and finished fifth May 4 at Evergreen Golf Course in the third Southern Lakes Conference Major of the season.

The Elks finished 12th May 6 in the Beloit Invitational at Krueger Haskell Golf Course.

Elkhorn competed Monday in an invite at Abbey Springs Golf Course in Fontana and Tuesday at Brighton Dale Links in Kansasville in the season’s final SLC Major.

The Elks compete May 18 at Twin Lakes Country Club in the SLC Tournament.

Elks coach Steve Fisher said the Elks posted a 380 in the Beloit Invite despite being unfamiliar with the course.

“Four of the five that went had never even seen the course,” Steve Fisher said. “To play as well as we did, I think it was very good.”

Fisher said of the few of the Elks started rough, but were able to keep their composure, rally and post solid scores.

“It was definitely a good showing,” Steve Fisher said. “I was happy with how the guys did.”

Nick Keller led the Elks with a 91. Cory Loveless finished with a 95 and Dayne Fisher posted a 96. Nolan Shirk finished at 98 and Kyle Strait at 103.

DeForest’s Matt Unger won individual medalist honors with a 70. Badger won the team title at the Beloit Invitational with a score of 313.

Liam Ahler led the Elks with an 89 – his first round in the 80s this season – and finished 14th in the SLC Major at Evergreen.

“It helps playing at home,” Steve Fisher said of the Elks posting a season-low team score. “The kids once again did a nice job. We’re not making some of the mistakes that have hurt our scores in the past.”

Fisher said the Elks are getting better at avoiding penalty strokes and posting large numbers on individual holes.

Kyle Schoeneberg finished with a 93. Keller shot a 94 and Dayne Fisher finished at 95. Shirk shot a 101.

Badger’s Luke Borneuf won individual medalist honors (74).

Badger won the major with a team score of 320. Union Grove finished second (346), Westosha Central third (348) and Wilmot fourth (371). Waterford finished sixth (381), Burlington seventh (381) and Delavan-Darien eighth (411).
