Tyler Daehn won three events and led the Elkhorn Area High School boys track & field team to a third-place finish April 22 in the Jim Church Invite at Brodhead High School.
The Elkhorn girls won three events and finished second.
The Elks competed Tuesday at home in a triangular against Burlington and Westosha Central. Elkhorn travels Friday to Pewaukee for an invitational.
“I continue to be impressed with the effort and the improvement that I see in all of our athletes,” Elks coach Steve Simsonson said.
“We are still doing a lot of experimenting with our lineups at this point of the season, trying to find the perfect combination of events for all of our kids as we approach the conference meet in the middle of May.”
Daehn won the 110-meter hurdles in 15,9 seconds for the Elk, and also won the 300 hurdles (43.1) and triple jump (37 feet, 11.25 inches).
Caleb Jacques-Hembree finished second in the 1,600 (1:58.01).
Evan Blanton finished third in the shot put (43-2) and Sam Divarco, Andrew Slack, Derek Davey and Brad Baas finished third in the 4×800 relay (8:39.03).
Divarco finished third in the 400 (54.1).
For the girls, Gabby Pinnow won the high jump (5 feet) and Katie Hickey won the pole vault (8-6). Madison Page won the long jump (14-11.5).
Taylor Mair finished second in the 3,200 (12:09.02) and Alyssa Reeves finished second in the 1,600 (5:21.09). Isabella Ewan finished second in the 100 (12.8)
Tiffany Orin, Page, Payton Christensen and Ewan finished second in the 4×100 relay (52.8).
Maddie Barlow, Mair, Pinnow and Reeves finished third in the 4×800 relay (10:03.05).
Brodhead won the nine-team girls meet with 129 points and the Elks scored 118. In the boys meet, McFarland won (151) and Elkhorn finished third (95).
“Our kids have high expectations for the end of the season, and they realize that if they work hard now, it will really pay off for them when the really important meets happen in May,” Simonson said.
