The Elkhorn Area High School boys swim team finished fifth in the 12-team field Feb. 13 at a WIAA Division 2 Sectional meet at Whitefish Bay High School.

In spite of their best efforts no one from the Elks advanced to the WIAA Division 2 State Swimming and Diving Meet Friday and Saturday at the University of Wisconsin Natatorium.

“I was happy with our fifth-place finish,” Elks coach Jamie Richardson said. “I think we did well. Everyone was on the bubble. We had some good times, and that’s all I can ask for.”

The Elks scored 191 points. Shorewood won the sectional (396).

The 200-yard medley relay of Brevin Kruse, Kalib Gorecki, Brett Schmieden and William Pyle posted the Elks’ highest finish of the sectional. The relay finished fifth in 1 minute, 50.38 seconds.

Connor LaFavor, Ben Davis, Schmieden and Logan Radlein finished sixth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:41.50).

Kruse finished sixth in the 100 backstroke (1:02.07) and Gorecki finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.58).

Pyle, LaFavor, Jacob Truesdale and Radlein finished seventh in the 400 freestyle relay (3:43.56).

Radlein finished seventh in the 200 individual medley (2:12.46) and improved on his seed time by more than three seconds.

Radlein finished eighth in the 100 butterfly (59.33), an improvement of more than a second over his seed time.

“I think Radlein swam really well,” Richardson said. “He broke the minute mark in the 100 butterfly. I thought he was on point.”

Pyle finished ninth in the 100 freestyle (54.01) and 11th in the 50 freestyle (24.36). Kruse finished 11th in the 200 individual medley (2:24.88) and Dakota Biefeld finished 12th (2:25.14). Schmieden finished 11th in the 100 butterfly (1:02.62).

Truesdale finished 11th in the 500 freestyle (5:41.26) and 13th in the 200 freestyle (2:05.17). Schmieden finished 13th in the 50 freestyle (25.01). Spender Ingersoll finished 14th in the 500 freestyle (6:09.70).

LaFavor finished 18th in the 100 freestyle (58.20) and Davis finished 20th (58.56). Davis bested his seed time by a half-second.

Seniors Truesdale, Schmieden, Pyle, LaFavor and Gorecki swam their final meet for the Elks on Saturday.
