The Elks trailed by 12 points with six minutes left in regulation against the Demons. Coach Todd Frohwirth said he went to his bench, and the players on the floor cut the final margin to five points.
Burlington (3-5, 2-1 SLC) outscored Elkhorn 20-15 in the second half, which is the tightest half the Elks have played this season.
The Demons outscored the Elks 36-21 in the first half. Burlington’s 20-point margin of victory represents the Elks’ closest game of the season.
Freshman Payton Christensen led the Elks with 12 points.
“Payton continues to grow as a player,” Frohwirth said. “This experience is really going to, and is presently, help her grow quickly.”
Frohwirth praised Olivia May for “doing all the little things for us every day. Diving on the floor, rebounding and getting defensive deflections.”
