The Elkhorn Area High School girls volleyball team ended the season with a postseason loss to a conference rival.

The Elks lost 25-9, 25-10, 25-9 to Westosha Central Oct. 22 in a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal match at Paddock Lake.

“It was a tough way to end the season,” Elks coach Justin Diderrich said. “Nothing really worked for us. We now start the offseason, where I am excited to start implementing my program.”

Diderrich assumed control of head coaching duties a short time before the beginning of the regular season. Diderrich and the Elks did not spend much time together before the season started. This will now be his first offseason with the players.

“The Elks played with a lot of heart and battled the entire night,” Falcons coach Charlie Berg said. “They dug several balls, which kept them in several of the rallies. We had to play our best to win the match. There was no letdown.”

Elkhorn opened its Southern Lakes Conference dual meet season Sept. 3 at home with a 25-9, 25-10, 25-7 loss to the Falcons.

“I feel we have definitely improved our game and I know Elkhorn has, too,” Berg said. “We put more pressure on them this time than the last so, offensively, I don’t feel they were as effective as they were in the first meeting.

“(Diderrich) will continue to develop this program, since it is his first year. I like what he’s done so far.”

Adrianne Bain finished with 10 kills for the Elks and Rebecca Rondou finished

with four. Natalie Dulaney tallied 23 digs.
