Junior outfielder Patrick Glogovsky earned the Elkhorn Area High School baseball team’s Most Improved Player award and Attitude and Effort award following the Elks’ 2015 season.

The Elks recently announced their season team awards.

Senior shortstop Cody Johnson is the Elks’ Most Valuable Player and junior Rodolfo Loreda earned the Team First award.

Coach Jon Anzalone said the Team First award is bestowed upon a player who is selfless and willing to play any role.

Senior Joe Konopski earned the Mr. Utility Player award. Anzalone said Konopski pitched and also played first base, third base and in the outfield this past season.

Johnson, Konopski and Dylan Linhart earned Coaches Medals for exhibiting leadership and character.

Dylan Peterson is the only member of the Elks to earn All-Southern Lakes Conference recognition. Peterson, a junior, earned Honorable Mention recognition as an outfielder.

Waterford’s Dylan Malecki and Wilmot’s Alex Haluzak are the First Team All-SLC pitchers.

Westosha Central’s Marshall Gilbert earned First Team honors at catcher and is also the SLC Player of the Year.

Waterford’s Matt Wezyk, Delavan-Darien’s Isiah Ramos, Burlington’s Aaron Mutter and Central’s Greg Kuhfuss are the First Team infielders.

Delavan-Darien’s Jacob Benzing, Union Grove’s Mason Rodriguez and Waterford’s Chris Saltzmann earned First Team honors as outfielders.

Central’s Cory Hauser is the lone Second Team selection at pitcher. Waterford’s Ryan Kiedrowski is the Second Team catcher.

Badger’s Isaac Ziergovel, Burlington’s Bryan Sturdevant, Waterford’s Michael Schmidt and Central’s Tanner Bykowski earned Second Team honors as infielders.

Union Grove’s Blake Hansen, Central’s Matt Young and Delavan-Darien’s Ethan Cesarz are the Second Team outfielders.

A bloop single in the bottom of the seventh inning June 2 at Oregon in a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal game ended the Elkhorn Area High School baseball team’s season.

The infield hit allowed Oregon to score its only run of the game, and the Panthers beat the Elks 1-0.

The Elks finished the regular season with a 5-17 record. Elkhorn finished 2-10 and in eighth place in the Southern Lakes Conference.

Anzalone said he feels the program made progress in his first season. Thirty players are signed-up for American Legion summer baseball, and players have started organizing practices on their own, independently of coaches.

“Hopefully, we get a little buzz going, and the kids continue to feel good about improving and being respectable,” Anzalone said.
