Tim Crum posted the second-fastest time in the 400-meter dash in school history and is the only member of the Elkhorn Area High School track and field program to advance this season to state.

Crum finished second in the 400-meter dash in 51.06 seconds May 29 at Janesville Parker High School in a WIAA Division 1 boys sectional track and field meet. Kenosha Bradford’s Dane Rasmussen won the event (50.88).

“Tim was obviously the highlight of the meet for us,” Elks coach Steve Simsonson said. “He has worked hard for four years to become a dominant runner, and deserves this opportunity to take his place among the elite runners at the state meet.”

In Division 1, the first three finishers in each event from each sectional advance to the State Track & Field Championships Friday and Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium on the UW-La Crosse campus.

“We actually had an exceptional meet,’ Simonson said of the sectional. “Besides Tim qualifying for the state meet, we had a lot of other great efforts.”

The 4×800 relay of Bethany Buikema, Taylor Mair, Maddie Barlow and Gabby Pinnow finished fourth in 9:56.62.

Haley Blum finished fourth in the 100 hurdles (16.74). Pinnow finished fourth in the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches).

Megan Leahy finished sixth in the pole vault (9 feet) and triple jump (34-2.25).

Derek Davey finished sixth in the 800 (1:59.40). Pinnow, Leesa and Natalie Sesing and Barlow finished sixth in the 4×400 relay with a season-best time of 4:11.11.

Richie Heidemann finished eighth in the shot put (42-7).

The Elkhorn girls finished 13th as a team in the sectional with a total of 25 points. Beloit Memorial won the sectional title (111).

The Elkhorn boys finished 17th (12). Badger won the sectional (69).
