Jacobson leads Elk gymnasts

The Elkhorn Area High School gymnastics team visited one of the state’s best Jan. 27 when the Elks traveled to Burlington for a Southern Lakes Conference dual meet against Burlington Combined (BC).

The Demons easily defeated the Elks 140.275-116.575. BC is the defending WIAA Division 1 state runner-up in each of the last four seasons.

BC’s home meets are at Karcher Middle School in Burlington, and the team consists of Burlington, Burlington Catholic Central, Lake Geneva Badger, Union Grove and Wilmot.

The Demons won every event in the dual meet.

Burlington’s Bailey Fitzpatrick won the all-around with a score of 37.575. Fitzpatrick won the vault (9.575), bars (9.525) and floor exercise (9.525), and finished second on beam (8.950). The Demons’ Molly Benavides won beam (9.1).

Megan Jacobson finished with Elkhorn’s highest all-around score (31.325). Megan Jacobson paced Elkhorn in the floor exercise finishing fourth (8.1). She also led Elkhorn on bars, finishing fifth with a 7.7.

Amy Kolacke finished the highest of any Elk on vault. Kolacke finished fourth with an 8.375. Cameron Jacobson finished fifth on beam (7.575).

Cameron Jacobson finished fifth in the all-around (29.750) and Kolacke finished sixth (27.950).

Elkhorn’s next meet is Feb. 12 at home in a non-conference dual meet versus Janesville Parker.
