The Elkhorn Area High School and Milton High School gymnastics teams ended their non-conference dual meet Dec. 18 at Elkhorn as close as two teams can be.
Milton beat Elkhorn 116.025 to 116.000. The .025 is the closest margin possible in high school gymnastics.
“You can’t get much closer than that,” Elks coach Melissa Fuller said.
Milton won every individual event. Taylor Kelley won the balance beam (7.95), floor exercise (8.2) and Vault (8.3) and Ashley Thompson won the uneven bars (7.55). Kelley also won the all-around (31.9).
Behind the Red Hawks in first the Elks finished sprinkled in places two through five or six.
In the beam, Amy Kolacke finished second (7.6), Megan Jacobson third (7.45) and Madison Neinfeldt fourth (6.9).
Megan Jacobson finished second in the floor exercise (8.050). Ronica Fuller finished fourth (7.65) and Neinfeldt sixth (7.25).
Jacobson finished third on bars (7.15). Neinfeldt finished fourth (6.65) and Cameron Jacobson sixth (6.25).
Kolacke finished second (8.25), Megan Jacobson fifth (7.8) and Cameron Jacobson sixth (7.6) in the vault.
Megan Jacobson finished second in the all-around (30.450). Kolacke finished fourth (28.950) and Neinfeldt fifth (28.350).
“We are battling the flu and a few injuries, and the girls managed to up their personal scores and the team score by six full points from our first meet,” Melissa Fuller said. “We (will) continue to work hard on new skills over Christmas and look forward to the next meet.”
The Elks opened their 2014-15 season Dec. 5 with a third-place finish in the Cardinal Classic at Sun Prairie High School.
The Elks scored a team total of 110.975 points. Host Sun Prairie won the invitational with a team score of 134.425.
The Elks next meet is a Southern Lakes Conference dual meet Jan. 6 at home against Jefferson.
