The Elkhorn girls soccer team not only won its game Friday against Janesville Park in impressive fashion, but also raised money for a good cause.
In the school’s annual Go Pink game, with former Green Bay Packers Antonio Freeman and Dorsey Levens on hand, the Elks won 7-0, and checks were presented at halftime to Judy Orange and Pam Grunt.
Each received a $2,000 check, and Freeman was on hand to sign autographs.
“We raised a lot of money and I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks on behalf of the team, as we had a huge outpouring of support,” said Elkhorn coach Eryca Card.
In that game, Megan Skoczylas scored twice, as did Kendall Gustisha and Carmen Diaz. Emma Scaro had a goal and an assist, while Allysa Daehn, Tasha Virrueta and Elise Gorecki all had assists as well.
The day before, Elkhorn picked up an 8-0 win over Wilmot in the Southern Lakes Conference.
Skoczylas and Diaz both had a pair of goals in the victory, while Abby Bochat, Carly Dessent, Allyson Reeves and Scaro all had single goals.
Scaro, Erica Mora and Dessent had assists.
“We put forth a full team effort,” said Card. “We had many players playing in positions that they do not normally play. They did a great job of playing as a team.”
Card also said Jocelyn Etten and Scaro held down the center of the field for the most part, and distributed the ball well.
The Elks also picked up a 3-2 win over Waterford on May 14.
“We played this game very tough,” Card said. “Waterford is a very aggressive team, and we had some injuries, but were able to hold up against them.”
Lauren Johnson had the winning goal in the contest. Etten and Gorecki also scored, while Gorecki, Skoczylas and Scaro had assists.
Elkhorn was scheduled to begin the SLC playoffs Tuesday with Badger.
