The Elkhorn Area High School girl volleyball team finished second in the Waukesha North Invitational Oct. 6 at Waukesha North High School in Waukesha.
In pool play, the Elks defeated Milwaukee Morse Marshall 25-15, 25-6 and lost to Lakeside Lutheran 25-23, 25-11.
They beat Medford 25-17, 15-7 after dropping the first set 27-26. Elkhorn defeated Milwaukee School of Languages 25-17, 25-11.
“We were second in our pool, losing only to Lakeside Lutheran,” coach Amber Pedersen said, “We made it to the Gold bracket and played Racine Park and won and then had to play Lakeside Lutheran again.”
The Elks defeated Racine Park 25-20, 25-13 and lost to Lakeside Lutheran 25-19, 25-21 to finish second.
“I was very happy to finally get some wins again,” Pedersen said. “The girls played hard all day, and with some players out to injuries and a new lineup, I was happy with the outcome.”
Ali Flasch led the Elks with 105 assists and 12 aces in the tournament. Maggie McGraw finished with 57 kills and Allyson Reeves finished with 45 assists.
The Elks got back to winning after dropping two dual meets. Elkhorn lost to Union Grove Oct. 2 at home and to Catholic Central High School Oct. 4 at Burlington.
The Elks lost to the Broncos in a Southern Lakes Conference meet 25-14, 25-18, 25-22.
“We just never got in sync as a team,” Pedersen said. “We couldn’t put together a solid run and were having to play catch up the entire match.”
Against the Broncos Flasch tallied 19 assists and McGraw 17 kills.
When the Elks played Catholic Central they struggled to score.
“They are a good team, but after the initial first loss, we couldn’t rally to score,” Pedersen said. “We would work hard to get a side-out and then give it right back.”
Against the Hilltoppers the Elks lost 25-22, 25-18, 25-11.
