Elkhorn raced Saturday in the Midwest Invitational hosted by Janesville Craig High School and run at Blackhawk Golf Course in Janesville.
“Conditions were cold and windy,” coach Randi Wulf sid. “This is a huge meet, with about 2,400 total runners in all of the races.”
Wulf said that, in spite of the conditions and competition, many runners continued to improve and excel.
“I am very happy with how our team’s times keep improving throughout the season,” Wulf said. “Ten of our 15 competitors ran their personal record of the season.”
For the boys, Wulf said Jacob Truesdale, Kyle Daehn, and Jake Nethery, all freshmen, continue to come into form and took a minute off their personal best time.
For the girls, Wulf said Morgan Zurn turned in the race of the day, improving her personal best time by almost four minutes.
On Sept. 13 Elkhorn overcame cold and rainy conditions at The Badger Invitational at Lake Geneva Badger High School.
“Even with the tough conditions both the boys and girls teams had their best meet of the season,” Wulf said. “The whole team except for two ran the fastest time of the year on the wet course.
“It was great to see the whole team focus on what they had to do and do it in the cold, wet conditions.”
In team scores, Lake Geneva Badger won the boys and girls meets. The Elks finished fifth of seven teams in the girls meet and seven of seven in the boys meet.
“The most impressive race for the girls was Luzareli Contreras, who ran her best time by over a minute,” Wulf said. “Luz has really been coming on strong through the middle of the season and I am looking forward to seeing just how fast she can get.”
Wulf said the boys team also showed improvement.
“The boys team also had showed great improvement at this meet,” Wulf said. “Four runners ran their best time of the season by over 1 minute: Trevor Bruggemann, Tighe Christopher, Bob Dall, and Jacob Truesdale.
“I am hoping that our success at this meet will continue through the rest of our season.”
For the girls, Stephanie Schmidt turned in the fastest time at 17:01 and finished 10th overall.
