The Elkhorn Area High School boys and girls cross country teams competed in the Rebel Invitational Aug. 30 at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in Somers.

The Elkhorn girls finished 18th of 21 teams.

“Conditions were perfect and, as always, there was strong competition at this meet,” coach Randi Wulf said.

Stephanie Schmidt paced the Elks, finishing the 4,000-meter course in 17:30. Wulf also praised Allyssa Daehn.

“(Daehn) used a great second mile to help her to an especially strong race,” Wulf said.

West Bend West won the girls team competition. Racine Horlick’s Ally Anich won the girls individual title with a time of 15:02.

Warren Township High School (Ill.) won the boys team title. Warren’s Martin Martinez won the boys 5,000-meter race in 16:05.9.

“Since we have such a small boys team we couldn’t field and compete for team scores,” Wulf said.

Wulf singled out the performances of Oscar Contreras and Enrique Quijano, whom he said “both ran very well in the varsity race.”

Jacob Truesdale in the freshman race also impressed Wulf.

“Jacob Truesdale looks to have a promising future in cross country with a nice race in the freshman race,” Wulf said.
