Two games and 10 goals later, the Elkhorn Area High School boys soccer team is undefeated in the Southern Lakes Conference.
The Elks (6-1-1 overall, 2-0 SLC) defeated Westosha Central 4-0 Aug. 28 at home and Wilmot 6-0 Aug. 30 at Wilmot to open their 2012 SLC season.
“We’re a better team than both teams,” Elks coach BZ Kayser said. “We could have scored a lot more goals. We had a lot of chances.”
Kayser said the Elks allowed one shot on goal in the two games.
“Defense – that’s the part they’ve been doing really well,” Kayser said. “We’ve been shutting everyone down.
“A negative is I wish we could have put more in the back of the net.”
Against the Falcons, Brandon Riese scored twice and Jeroham Duran and Jon Stopple each scored once. Duran, Jose Estrada and Riese each scored twice against the Panthers.
The two easy wins allowed Kayser some flexibility with his players.
“We needed these two games to start the conference season,” Kayser said. “We got some key players some rest and got other kids some playing time.
Kayser said the Elks aren’t blowing teams out this season – their norm of last year – and finding additional playing time for his bench players isn’t easy.
“It’s been more of a challenge this year to create quality time for kids to get in the game,” Kayser said.
Elkhorn plays Badger today at home, a game Kayser said is huge for the Elks. Badger returns all its starters from last season and is 3-2 overall, 1-1 in the SLC.
Elkhorn follows its match against Badger with a Saturday affair at home against Mukwonago, a power in the suburban Milwaukee-based Classic 8 Conference.
The Indians are 9-0 overall.
