Offense wasn’t an issue for the East Troy Post 188 legion baseball team Monday at Janesville, as it put seven runs on the scoreboard.
What hurt Post 188, however, was its defense.
East Troy committed seven errors that led to 12 unearned runs in a 14-7 loss that dropped it to 6-10 overall. Janesville scored in all six of its at bats en route to the seven-run victory.
Leading Post 188 were Quinn Erdmann (two hits, two runs), Roman Evans (two hits, run, RBI), Andrew Gross (two hits, run, three RBI), Mac Dudkiewicz (run, RBI), Brandon Bakken (hit, run) and Brady Barels (hit, run, RBI).
Gross took the loss, as he worked five innings, and allowed five hits, two earned runs, three walks and struck out four. Ten of the runs charged to Gross were unearned.
Evans worked the final inning, and allowed two hits, two runs and struck out two. Both runs charged to Evans were unearned.
Prior to Monday’s loss, the legion battled nearby Big Foot to a pair of tough road losses in two five-inning games June 28.
East Troy dropped the opener, 8-6, followed by a 6-5 loss in the nightcap.
Big Foot jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first game before Post 188 stormed back with a five-run fourth inning and a one-run fifth, but the rally fell just short.
Kyle Lehman provided the big hit in the fourth with a two-run double that scored Kyle Nelson and Mike Rosin. Jake Hannah drew a bases-loaded walk that scored Evans, while Lehman scored on an error and Gross crossed home on a wild pitch.
Evans doubled home Tyler Dopke with East Troy’s final run in the fifth.
Leaders for Post 188 were Evans (three hits, run, RBI), Lehman (hit, run, two RBI), Nelson (hit, run), Dopke (hit, run) and Hannah (RBI).
Lehman took the loss, as he worked three innings, and allowed nine hits, five earned runs, three walks and struck out three. Evans struck out the side in his one inning of work.
East Troy jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the nightcap before Big Foot won the game with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Dopke drove in the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly that scored Hannah in the second inning. Ben Gerber scored on a Big Foot error in the fifth inning, while Gross walked, second second, moved to third on a passed ball and stole home for East Troy’s second run of the frame.
In the fourth, Post 188 added its final two runs on a sacrifice fly by Evans that chased home Rosin, followed by a wild pitch that scored Dopke.
Dopke had a hit, a run and an RBI for Post 188, while Gross had a hit and a run to lead the offense.
Rosin worked 4-2/3 innings, and allowed four hits, an earned run, a walk and struck out three.
