Girls struggle to put points on the board against Evansville

It’s cliché, but when shots consistently fall, it makes the game of basketball a whole lot easier.

East Troy High School’s Morgan Leising sets to throw in the Dec. 12 loss to Jefferson.

And conversely, when they don’t, life becomes much tougher.

The young East Troy High School girls basketball team is living the latter at the moment.

East Troy’s shooting woes continued in two losses last week, as it fell to 1-7 overall and 0-7 in the Rock Valley Conference with a 78-42 loss to Jefferson last Tuesday and a 51-37 loss to Evansville on Friday night.

“We played hard but our poor shooting continues to plague us,” East Troy coach Maurya Lomen said. “We also were out-rebounded, which has been our nemesis. We focused a lot on defense this last week, and consequently, our shooting percentage suffered.

“But the girls keep working hard, and they are great kids. We will get better.”

Against Evansville, the Trojans fell behind, 26-18 at halftime. The Blue Devils outscored East Troy, 25-19 in the last 18 minutes to close out the win.
