The first phase of the 2017 season came to an end in resounding fashion Monday night for the East Troy boys tennis team.

Now it’s onto the really big stuff.

East Troy closed out a 14-3 regular season with a 6-1 nonconference win over visiting Beloit Memorial. The Trojans, ranked eighth in Division 2, were unable to finish their second dual of the night against Brown Deer because of rain.

The Trojans turned their attention to the Rock Valley Conference Meet Tuesday at UW-Whitewater. Results of that meet, which was moved because of a scheduling conflict with the university, were unavailable this week.

There were plenty of reasons for optimism heading into the RVC Meet, as the Trojans focused on bringing home a title, East Troy coach Dave Lindow said.

East Troy finished the RVC season at 6-0.

“(It’s basically) a three-horse race with (Watertown Luther Prep) and Big Foot,” Lindow said. “We are in the driver’s seat being undefeated. This is an opportunity for our kids to bring home a medal at their flight.

“The conference points will take care of themselves. The kids have really worked hard this season, and I hope they get a chance to bring that trophy home to their school.”

Picking up wins Monday against Beloit Memorial were Nick Bourdo at No. 1 singles, 6-7 (3), 6-3, 10-4; Jered Brehm at No. 3, 6-1, 6-2; Joe Moede at No. 4, 7-6 (4), 6-0; Vince Baxter-Brody Woodson at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 6-0; C.J. D’Amico-Jordan Paullin at No. 2, 6-4, 6-1; and Logan Fitch-Josh Moede at No. 3, 6-3, 6-3.

Jared Paullin, at No. 2 singles, dropped his match, 3-6, 6-7 (3).

The duo of Baxter-Woodson beat their Brown Deer counterpart, 6-1, 6-2, in the only match completed before the rain fell.

East Troy closed out its perfect conference season last Tuesday with a 7-0 win at Jefferson.

Winning singles matches were Woodson at No. 1, 6-0, 6-0; Bourdo at No. 2, 6-1, 6-1; Baxter at No. 3, 6-1, 6-1; and Jared Paullin at No. 4, 6-1, 6-1.

Victorious doubles efforts came from Joe Moede-Jered Brehm at No. 1, 6-0, 6-1; D’Amico-Jordan Paullin at No. 2, 6-0, 6-0; and Fitch-Josh Moede at No. 3, 6-3, 6-2.
