Boys bring home second place

As the calendar prepares to turn to May, it’s almost time for the East Troy boys and girls track teams to begin peaking for the big meets on the horizon.
It’s not quite that moment just yet – but the Trojans definitely put their best feet forward in two meets over the weekend.
The East Troy girls finished first, while the boys were second, at the Don Albright Invitational at Parkview on Saturday. Those efforts came on the heels of a second- and third-place finish, respectively, Friday afternoon in the Trojans’ own invitational.
“I was very happy with how well both of our boys and girls did (at Parkview),” East Troy coach Reid Oldenburg said. “A lot of our younger kids got the opportunity to compete in a varsity meet, and many showed amazing (personal records). It was a great day, and (I was) happy that our teams finished as high as they did.”
The East Troy girls finished with 132 points, ahead of Parkview’s 117 and the Home School Eagles’ 105. Kenosha St. Joseph was fourth with 81, followed by Edgerton with 78, Burlington Catholic Central with 69, Palmyra-Eagle with 61 and South Beloit with 22.
Track teams strong at Trojan Invite
Count East Troy boys and girls track coach Reid Oldenburg as a fan of competing against bigger schools.
The way he sees it, there’s nothing to be lost and everything to gain – and both East Troy squads proved that Friday night in the Trojans’ own invitational.
East Troy finished second among the girls with 148 points, while the boys were third with 80 at the 12-team event. Oak Creek swept both the team titles with the Knights’ girls scoring 160 points and the boys 155.
Rounding out the top-five team scores on the girls’ side were Greendale Martin Luther with 61 points, Whitnall with 49 and Badger with 58. Finishing behind Oak Creek among the boys were Badger with 120 points, Milton and East Troy with 80 and Kenosha Indian Trail with 61.
“I love going against some big and talented Division 1 teams,” Oldenburg said. “We get to see some great performances because of it. We see some schools there that have almost four times as many kids as us, and we compete with them very well. The kids know how much of an accomplishment it was to finish second and third in a very tough invite.”
