Offense wasn’t an issue for the East Troy High School softball team in its road game last week at Jefferson.

Unfortunately for the Trojans, stopping the Eagles from scoring was easier said than done.

East Troy battled back twice, but it was Jefferson that pulled away in an 11-7 Rock Valley Conference victory. The loss dropped the Trojans to 1-4 overall.

After Jefferson built a 3-1 lead, the Trojans rallied for four runs combined in the third through fifth innings to regain the lead.

Jefferson built a 9-5 lead, but East Troy pulled back within two with a pair of runs in the sixth. The Eagles closed out the scoring with two more runs in the sixth.

Kaitlyn O’Connell led the Trojans with two hits, including a double, and four RBI, followed by Kelly Griffa with two hits, two runs scored and an RBI.

Earlier in the week, the Trojans were held hitless by Jefferson pitcher Payton Biwer in a 5-0 setback. Biwer struck out eight and walked four.

The game was scoreless through three innings, as Biwer and East Troy pitcher Sophia Heimos were locked in a pitcher’s duel. Jefferson scored the game’s first run in the fourth, followed by two more in the fifth and sixth to ice the win.

East Troy was back in action Tuesday at Palmyra-Eagle and Thursday against visiting Parkview. The Trojans host Edgerton Saturday for a doubleheader at 10 a.m.
