There’s always something to be gained by finding strong competition, especially early in the season.

And if positive results come from it, all the better.

The East Troy High School boys and girls track teams experienced both last week with a first- and third-place effort, respectively, at Saturday’s McFarland Invitational.

East Troy’s boys finished with 132.5 points, ahead of Stoughton’s 122, McFarland’s 109, DeForest’s 94 and Madison Memorial’s 82.

Rounding out the team scores were Baraboo with 66 points, Edgewood with 54 and Madison East with 30.5.

On the girls’ side, Baraboo was first with 140.5 points, followed by Memorial with 127.5 and East Troy with 123.

Finishing behind the top three were DeForest with 95, McFarland with 83, Stoughton with 72, Madison East with 45, Edgewood with 17.
