Wrestlers start out strong at home dual

There’s plenty of youth on the East Troy High School wrestling roster this winter.
And with that youth will come some bumps in the road until they get their feet underneath them.
But there also will be some good moments – and the Trojans had both of those in Saturday’s home Tom Manley/Emery Howard dual tournament.
East Troy won two matches in its pool, as it defeated Cedarburg 33-27 and Green Bay United 43-36, and fell 48-26 to Baraboo.
The 2-1 record sent the Trojans into a bracketed pool for fourth- to sixth-place. East Troy dropped both matches, a 58-24 decision to Oshkosh West and 39-36 to Kenosha Indian Trail to finish sixth overall.
“It was a good first test,” East Troy assistant coach Joe Dedick said. “The team is very young this year with 12 freshmen. We will take our lumps in the beginning of the season. After they get some high school experience, they will be successful.
“They definitely have a great work ethic. It has been a great group to work with.”
Three Trojans posted perfect 5-0 records to lead the way – Chase Coleman (152), Kelcye DeMara (160) and Chris Storandt (220).
Demara had five pins for the day.
“He has been putting the time in the weight room and now has some horsepower behind some good technique,” Dedick said.
Storandt appears to have a little extra bounce in his step, Dedick said, after he missed last season because of an injury.
“I feel he will have a successful season,” Dedick said. “You can tell he is eager to show he has what it takes to make a run at a state title.”
Freshman Tommy Larson (106) was also perfect Saturday at 4-0.
“He had a great day at the office,” Dedick said. “He was a state champion at the youth level and has continued on with his winning ways.”
Also picking up wins Saturday were Jackson Dedick (145), 1-4 overall; Victor Chapman (170), 1-3; and Jacob Price (182), 1-4.
East Troy is back in action Saturday when it travels to the 22-team Bay Port Invitational at 9:15 a.m. The Trojans host Johnson Creek Tuesday, Dec. 13, in a 7 p.m. non-conference dual meet.
Trojans drop opener
East Troy opened its season Dec. 1 with a 39-27 Rock Valley Conference loss to Evansville.
Picking up wins were Larson (113), by pin in 3:48; Joe Moede (126), 6-3; Coleman (152), by pin in 5:30; and Storandt (195), by pin in 1:18.
Dropping matches were Kaleb Curler (120), by pin in 1:07; Eli Fletcher (138), by pin in 49 seconds; Dedick (145), by pin in 3:14; DeMara (160), by pin in 3:02; Chapman (170), by pin in 50 seconds; Price (182), 7-4; and John Skinner (285), by pin in 1:07.
East Troy’s Mason Orgas (132) received a forfeit victory. Both teams forfeited matches at 220 and 106 pounds.
