The season-long roll continued last week for the East Troy High School girls tennis squad.

East Troy stayed unbeaten in the Rock Valley Conference and on top of the standings with a 6-1 dual meet win Sept. 8 at Edgerton.

The Trojans, who improved to 16-2 overall and 3-0 in the RVC, won their 12th straight dual meet in the process.

“Although Edgerton has not won a conference match, they do have one of the best teams they have had in recent history,” East Troy coach Dave Lindow said.

“Their No. 2 doubles team has only lost once this year. They played well at No. 1 doubles and gave our kids a tough match.”

Picking up singles wins for the Trojans were Lora Leach at No. 1, 6-0, 6-1; Anna Stephan at No. 2, 7-5, 6-3; Victoria Pott at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0; and Mikayla Lamping at No. 4, 6-1, 6-1.

Stephan rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the first set.

“Anna struggled and pressed a bit,” Lindow said. “She listened very well (to coaching) and settled down.”

The No. 1 doubles team of Mackenzie Lindow and Erin Rice won 6-1, 6-7 (5), 10-5, while the No. 3 team of Kelly Griffa and Allison Slusar won 6-4, 6-0.

East Troy’s No. 2 team of Allison Barth and Claudia Pott fell 7-6 (3), 1-6, 7-10.

Nothing came easy for the Trojans’ top doubles team, which improved to 14-0 overall, Lindow said.

“I thought it was really good for our kids to be tested and play under a little bit of pressure,” he said. “It was the first time all year they had dropped a set. They responded and won the third set tiebreak.”

East Troy traveled to Big Foot Tuesday afternoon and hosts Whitewater on Thursday. Both the and the Whippets entered conference play this week at 2-0, followed by McFarland at 1-2 and Jefferson and Edgerton at 0-3.

Lindow is pleased with where his team is at – but knows there’s more challenges that lie ahead.

“Our kids are playing well, and we will see where we position ourselves after this week,” he said. “Our goals remain the same, (to) play the next match to win and see what happens.

“Our team has worked hard all summer and during the season. We will continue that the next couple of weeks and see where we land.”

Soccer wins two

The East Troy boys soccer team improved to 4-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the RVC with a 2-3 record last week.

East Troy beat Cambridge 4-3 and Waterford 2-1, sandwiched around a 1-0 loss to Big Foot.

Statistics and comments from East Troy coach Nick Datka were unavailable this week.

The Trojans are back in action Thursday when they travel to Edgerton, followed by a road contest Saturday at Watertown Luther Prep. East Troy is back at home next Monday, Sept. 19, to face Jefferson.
