Even with couple setbacks, the East Troy High School girls tennis team still had more than enough to keep on rolling the week before Labor Day.

The Trojans dropped matches at No. 1 and 2 singles, but swept the other five en route to a 5-2 Rock Valley Conference victory at Jefferson.

East Troy improved to 2-0 in the RVC and 15-2 overall.

“We played a very tough Jefferson team,” East Troy coach Dave Lindow said. “I’m very pleased with the overall effort of our team.”

Junior Victoria Pott and sophomore Mikayla Lamping picked up singles wins for the Trojans at No. 3 and 4, respectively.

Pott defeated Rachel Messer 6-2, 6-2, while Lamping beat Karyn Duddeck by the same score.

“Victoria and Mikayla played very consistent and kept the ball in play,” Lindow said.

East Troy swept the doubles to finish off the win.

The No. 1 team of sophomore Mackenzie Lindow and Erin Rice beat Jefferson juniors Audrey Pelikan and Aggie Waugh, 7-6 (2), 6-0 to improve to 13-0.

“(They) played very well,” Lindow said. “Jefferson stuck with them in the first set. … They both have an offensive and defensive game, and they used them both very well.”

Also victorious were the No. 2 team of junior Allison Barth and senior Claudia Pott, 6-0, 6-3 over juniors Taylor Wedge and Emily Stedman, and the No. 3 team of senior Kelly Griffa and sophomore Allison Slusar, 6-1, 6-0 over juniors Emily Fischer and Nicole Hachtel.

“Our No. 2 and 3 doubles teams played well,” Lindow said. “They kept the ball in play and did what they needed to do to win the match.”

Dropping matches for the Trojans were senior Lora Leach at No. 1 singles, 3-6, 2-6, to senior Jazymne Schoeller and sophomore Morgan Graf, and junior Anna Stephan, 7-5, 5-7, 4-10 to junior Rachel Messer.

Both Leach and Stephan played well in defeat, Lindow said.

“(Leach’s) opponent did not miss and was on the offensive from the start,” he said. “Lora played very well but could not get on the offensive.

“(Stephan played well in the first set and then was a little tentative in the second set and let her opponent in the door.”

East Troy is back in action Thursday when it travels to Edgerton for a 4:15 p.m. RVC dual meet.
