The East Troy boys soccer picked up a pair of wins last week to improve to 2-1 overall.
East Troy opened play with a 3-0 victory Aug. 31 over Lake Mills, followed by a 3-2 win Sept. 1 over Whitnall.
Against Whitnall, Tommy Hanson tied things up with his first varsity goal, followed by a goal by Justin Carstens off a Max Oldenburg assist and a penalty kick by Vince Baxter that closed out the scoring.
“We showed an ability to rebound after giving up that early goal,” East Troy coach Nick Datka said. “Whitnall beat us pretty bad twice last year, so I knew that we needed to find a way to gain some confidence.
“The goal that Tommy scored was a hustle goal, (and) I think that it showed the team that we could get after them.”
Two goals by Hunter Cliffgard keyed the 3-0 win over Lake Mills.
East Troy was back in action Tuesday against Cambridge, followed by its RVC opener Thursday at Big Foot. The Trojans host Waterford Saturday at noon.
Datka is looking for his team to continue making positive strides in all three matches this week.
“We need to take all of the lessons, negative and positive, from our first four games and become better from them,” he said. “We know that we have the personnel to be successful, but we also know with a small roster, we need to compete twice as hard as some of our opponents.”
