Boys win regionals, girls come in second

There will be no shortage of East Troy boys and girls track athletes in Thursday’s Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 2 sectional.
And the beauty for those Trojans who advanced from Monday’s regional is they won’t have to travel far to get there.
If at all.
The East Troy boys finished first, while the girls were second, and advanced a slew of athletes to the East Troy Sectional, set to kick off with field events at 3:30 p.m., followed by running events at 4:15.
Advancing to next week’s state meet in La Crosse will be the top-four finishers in each event, along with athletes whose efforts rank among the top four from sectional meets around the state.
East Troy tallied 161 points to win the boys’ title, far ahead of Lakeside Lutheran’s 117 and Shoreland Lutheran’s 75. Whitewater was fourth with 74 points and Big Foot fifth with 67.5.
Rounding out the team scores were Kenosha St. Joseph with 62, Racine Prairie with 56, Racine St. Catherine’s with 41, Kenosha Christian Life with 34.5 and Palmyra-Eagle with eight.
Billy Dominski and Jacob Wendt each were double regional winners to lead the Trojans.
Dominski finished first in the 110-hurdles (15.24) and the 300-hurdles (40.09), while Wendt won the shot put (47-3 1/2) and the discus (154-1).
Also earning titles on Monday were Evan Harding in the 800 (2:02.17); the 800-meter relay team of Allen Olsen, Jake Remsza, Eli Leising and Miles McCarthy (1:31.81); the 1,600-meter team of Dominski, Leising, Evan Harding and Remsza (3:27.98); and the 3,200-meter team of Harding, Leising, Kelcye DeMara and Remsza (8:18.23).
Other top-four finishers that qualified for the sectional were Ethan Sweet, second in the 400 (53.25); Dawson Kruse, second in the high jump (5-8); McCarthy, fourth in the 100 (11.89), the 200 (23.78) and the long jump (19-5 3/4); the 400-meter relay team of Kruse, Alex Schahczinski, Jake Dessart and Mason Malzahn, fourth (47.29); Sean Cox, fourth in the pole vault (10-0); and Olson, fourth in the triple jump (42-8).
Also scoring points for the boys were Charlie Ward, fifth in the 400 (56.63); Truman Kent, fifth in the 110-hurdles (16.7) and sixth in the 300-hurdles (45.23); Nolan Dallas, fifth in the 800 (2:08.04); Kruse, sixth in the 200 (24.83); DeMara, sixth in the 400 (57.11); and Nathan Mack, sixth in the 1,600 (4:50.91) and eighth in the 800 (2:11.04).
Girls finish second
The East Troy girls put up 143.5 points to finish behind only Lakeside Lutheran’s 173. Whitewater was third with 75, Big Foot fourth with 74 and Racine Prairie with 60.
Rounding out the team scores were Shoreland Lutheran with 47, Racine St. Catherine’s with 46, Kenosha St. Joseph with 45.5 and Palmyra-Eagle with 28.
Finishing first for the Trojans were Hope Schneider in the high jump (5-4), M.E. Dodge in the discus (120-1) and Katrina Santos in the triple jump (35-11).
Also moving on to Thursday were Rachel Bottum, second in the 400 (1:02.19); Tori Miller, second in the 100-hurdles (16.06); the 800-meter relay team of Dodge, Schneider, Callie Vogel and Santos, second (1:49.43); the 1,600-team of Santos, Dodge, Schneider and Bottum, second (4:08.95); Santos, second in the high jump (5-2); Hannah Buchholtz, second in the pole vault (9-0); Maddie Rosin, third in the 1,600 (5:47.5); the 3,200-meter team of Amanda Bustillos, Morgan Bartlett, Mackenzie Lindow and Rosin, third (10:07.17); Evans, third in the pole vault (8-6); the 400-meter team of Michaela Evans, Haley Sheperd, Sami Mudlaff and Taylor Schmitt, fourth (54.2); and Dodge, fourth in the shot put (33-5 1/2).
Also scoring points were Sheperd, fifth in the 100 (14.09) and sixth in the 200 (29.21); Bustillos, fifth in the 800 (2:36.99); Bartlett, sixth in the 400 (1:06.46); Lindow, fifth in the 1,600 (5:51.29) and sixth in the 800 (2:40.46); Mudlaff, fifth in the 300-hurdles (54.83); Heather Vivian, fifth in the high jump (5-0); Hannah Avendano, seventh in the 400 (1:08.06); Schmitt, sixth in the long jump (15-9 1/2); and Vogel, seventh in the triple jump (33-5).
