It’s been quite the week for the East Troy High School boys tennis team.
The Trojans closed out a six-event stretch since last Tuesday with a 6-1 nonconference loss Monday afternoon at Watertown Luther Prep.
East Troy is 15-4 overall.
“I’m very happy with where the team is at,” East Troy coach Dave Lindow said. “(We’re) 3-3 in conference and hope to make a run at winning the conference tournament. The postseason looks promising as well.”
Vince Baxter picked up the team’s only win Monday at Luther Prep with a 6-1, 0-6, 10-6 victory at No. 3 singles.
Dropping matches were Johnathon Brehm at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 3-6, 8-10; Brody Woodson at No. 2, 4-6, 6-2, 6-10; Nick Bourdo at No. 4, 5-7, 5-7; Jordan and Jared Paullin at No. 1 doubles, 2-6, 2-6; Joe Moede-Jered Brehm at No. 2, 4-6, 2-6; and Adam Wales-C.J. D’Amico at No. 3, 3-6, 5-7.
Trojans win invite
Prior to Monday, the Trojans traveled to the two-day Greendale Martin Luther Tournament last weekend and came home with a first-place effort.
East Troy, Luther Prep, Catholic Memorial and Brown Deer were each 3-1 in dual meets, followed by Greendale, Westosha Central and Milwaukee Lutheran-Lake Country Lutheran at 2-2.
St. Johns and Thomas More finished at 1-2, while Martin Luther was winless at 0-4.
Finishing 3-1 for the Trojans were Baxter-Woodson at No. 1 doubles, Johnathon Brehm at No. 1 singles and Bourdo at No. 2.
Lindow switched his lineup to what he plans to use in the postseason for an RVC dual May 5 at McFarland.
East Troy fell 5-2 to the Spartans in that dual. Collecting wins were Jordan Paullin at No. 3 singles, 1-6, 6-2, 10-4 and Bourdo at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-1.
Dropping matches were Johnathon Brehm at No. 1 singles, 2-6, 2-6; Lucas Bottum at No. 2, 0-6, 2-6; Baxter-Woodson at No. 1 doubles, 2-6, 3-6; Moede-Jered Brehm at No. 2, 5-7, 2-6; and D’Amico-Wales at No. 3, 6-3, 4-6, 7-10.
The Trojans hosted Big Foot-Williams Bay last Wednesday and emerged with a 4-3 RVC victory.
Posting wins were Johnathon Brehm at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-3; Woodson at No. 2, 6-1, 6-1; Baxter at No. 3, 6-4, 6-0; and Bourdo at No. 4, 6-3, 6-2.
Dropping matches to the Chiefs were the Paullin brothers at No. 1 doubles, 1-6, 2-6; Moede-Jered Brehm at No. 2, 0-6, 5-7; and Wales-D’Amico at No. 3, 3-6, 2-6.
The Trojans finished the RVC schedule at 3-3.
Victory in the opener
East Troy opened its week with a 4-3 nonconference dual meet win last Tuesday over host Waterford.
Winning matches were Johnathon Brehm at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-3; Moede at No. 3, 6-3, 6-3; Bourdo at No. 3, 6-3, 6-2; and Woodson-Baxter at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, 6-1.
Falling to the Wolverines were Jered Brehm at No. 2 singles, 1-6, 1-6; the Paullins at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, 4-6, 8-10; and Wales-D’Amico at No. 3, 3-6, 6-1, 12-14.
