The East Troy High School boys tennis team’s perfect 2016 hit a speed bump Monday afternoon.

Now it’s up to the Trojans to quickly get back on track.

All three doubles teams dropped their matches as East Troy fell to visiting Whitewater 4-3 in a Rock Valley Conference dual meet.

“(I’m) a little disappointed with the loss,” East Troy coach Dave Lindow said. “Our doubles players need to trust our method of play. We (are hitting) too many odd shots. We need to stick to the basics.”

Picking up wins for the Trojans were junior Brody Woodson at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-1; junior Vince Baxter at No. 3, 7-5, 7-5; and sophomore Nick Bourdo at No. 4, 6-3, 6-0.

“Brody has been nothing but outstanding,” Lindow said. “(He’s) 8-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles.

“Vince and Nick battle every match, and both are still undefeated.”

Lindow added he’s going to pair Woodson and Baxter at No. 1 doubles this weekend in anticipation of the fast-approaching post-season.

“(They) will get a crack at No. 1 doubles in the upcoming tournament to see where they will land as potential state qualifiers,” he said.

Dropping matches to the Whippets were senior Johnathon Brehm at No. 1 singles, 1-6, 3-6; juniors Jordan and Jared Paullin at No. 1 doubles, 3-6, 2-6; sophomores Joe Moede and Jered Brehm at No. 2, 3-6, 0-6; and senior Adam Wales and sophomore C.J. D’Amico at No. 3, 6-3, 3-6, 7-10.

Despite the loss at No. 1 singles, Lindow said Johnathon Brehm is putting together a solid campaign.

“(He) is having a great year at No. 1 singles,” Lindow said. “(He’s) 8-2, with his (two) losses coming to probable state qualifiers.”

East Troy is in the midst of a busy stretch, as the Trojans traveled to Waterford Tuesday, hosted Big Foot Wednesday and will compete at McFarland Friday.

This weekend, the Trojans play at the Greendale Martin Luther Invitational Friday and Saturday, followed by a road nonconference dual meet Monday at Watertown Luther Prep.

Trojans win one, tie one

East Troy traveled to Racine Case on Saturday to complete a suspended quadrangular from March.

The Trojans defeated Case 5-2 and finished in a 2-2 tie against Bay Port in a match the was cancelled because of weather.

Picking up wins against Case were Johnathon Brehm at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1; Bourdo at No. 2, 7-5, 6-4; Wales at No. 3, 6-4, 6-1; Woodson-Baxter at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 6-1; and Moede-Jered Brehm at No. 3, 6-3, 6-0.

Falling to the Eagles were D’Amico at No. 3 singles, 1-6, 0-6; and the Paullin brothers at No. 2 doubles, 6-4, 2-6, 8-10.

Winning in the rain-shortened dual with Bay Port were Johnathon Brehm at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-2; and Woodson-Baxter at No. 1 doubles, 2-6, 6-4, 10-8.
