The visiting Parkview boys basketball team never stood a chance last week.
Not when East Troy shot the ball like it did.
The Trojans continued to build momentum toward the post-season with a 73-point first half en route to dominating 118-38 Rock Valley Conference victory.
“We came out and made everything,” East Troy coach Darryl Rayfield said. “And we really shared the ball.
“Our ability to speed teams up and not turn it over is a big part of why we play well. This team is playing for each other. They really are so unselfish. It’s actually quite refreshing.”
Joe Ciriacks was on fire early and often in the first half, as he drained 10 of his 11 3-pointers in the opening 18 minutes. Ciriacks finished with 35 points.
East Troy’s leading scorer, Jake Nixon, poured in 38 points behind three 3-pointers, while Jake Remsza added 12.
East Troy took a 12-4 overall record and a 10-0 Rock Valley Conference mark into a road game Tuesday night at Big Foot. Results were unavailable by press time.
Heading into this week, the Trojans hold a one-game lead over Evansville (9-1) in the race for the RVC crown. McFarland (7-3) is three games behind.
Following Tuesday’s game, the Trojans travel to McFarland Feb. 5 for a matchup with the Spartans. East Troy won the first contest this season 87-71.
There’s still work to be done as the regular season heads to the finish line, Rayfield said.
“We must continue to find ways to rebound and defend better,” he said. “I think it is getting much better. It’s a work in progress.”
Girl drop two
The East Troy girls fell behind by 10 points in the first half Jan. 29 to visiting McFarland and never recovered in a 55-41 RVC setback.
Katrina Santos led the way with 18 points and 13 rebounds, followed by Maddie Rosin with 15 points and three assists. Kayla Casper had three steals.
East Troy (8-9 overall, 4-8 RVC) committed 20 turnovers.
The Trojans opened the week with 47-28 RVC loss Jan. 26 to visiting Big Foot. East Troy scored 14 points in each half.
Leading the way were Santos with nine points and 10 rebounds, Mackenzie Lindow with six points and Rosin with six points and four steals.
East Troy traveled to Delavan-Darien Tuesday night for a non-conference contest and will return to its RVC schedule Feb. 6 at Jefferson.
