Football, soccer players make all-conference teams

The East Troy High School football team, which overcame a 0-3 start to make the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 4 playoffs, recently landed 13 players on three All-Rock Valley Conference North Division teams.

Leading the way were first-team selections Owen Goedland (junior, defensive line), Jake Nixon (senior, defensive back), Noah Nyffeler (junior, kicker-punter), Nick Ruffalo (senior, quarterback), Jake Remsza (senior, wide receiver) and Kyle Storandt (senior, offensive line).

Second-team picks were Goedland (running back), Zach Zewiske (senior, wide receiver), Nick Biersack (senior, offensive line), Justin Growel (senior, defensive end), Jake Pieper (senior, defensive line) and Sam Goral (junior, linebacker).

Named honorable mention were A.J. Kulick, Chris Storandt and Nyffeler.

East Troy finished the year at 6-4 overall, including a 5-1 mark in the RVC North, good for second place behind unbeaten Evansville-Albany.

The Trojans fell in the first round of the playoffs, 7-6 to RVC South foe Big Foot.

The following are statistics for the year:

  • Ruffalo: 137 of 245, with 14 touchdowns and 2,065 yards passing;
  • Goedland: 94 rushing attempts for 882 yards and 11 touchdowns. Also led the Trojans with 70 tackles, including 15 for a loss, six sacks and two recovered fumbles;
  • Remsza: 34 receptions for 668 yards and six touchdowns;
  • Zewiske: 44 receptions for 488 yards and three touchdowns;
  • Nixon: 36 total tackles, one recovered fumble and 11 interceptions, including one for a touchdown;
  • Growel: 47 total tackles, including 10 for a loss and seven sacks;
  • Pieper: 45 total tackles, including 14 for a loss, two sacks, three recovered fumbles and two forced fumbles;
  • Goral: 54 total tackles, including five for a loss and one forced fumble;
  • Kulick: 48 total tackles, including six for a loss, one sack and two forced fumbles; and
  • Nyffeler: 49 total tackles, including one for a loss, one recovered fumble, two forced fumbles and an interception.

Soccer lands six

The East Troy boys soccer team had four second-team picks and two on honorable mention.

Named to the second team were junior forward Nathan Mack, senior midfielder Lucas Bottum, sophomore defender Denver Roberts and senior goalie Ryan Griffa.

Honorable mention selections were juniors Vince Baxter and Jared Paulin.

East Troy was 8-12 overall in 2015, including a 3-8-1 mark in the RVC.
