The Rock Valley Conference schedule started off on the right foot last week for the East Troy High School girls tennis team.
East Troy rolled past visiting Edgerton 6-1 in its RVC opener. Whitewater currently leads the standings at 2-0, followed by the Trojans and McFarland, Big Foot and Jefferson, all at 1-1.
Edgerton remains winless at 0-3.
So far, so good, East Troy coach Dave Lindow said.
“I love the start of the season for our kids,” he said. “I’m really proud of them.”
Lindow added that he knows the race to the RVC title is up for grabs.
“The conference looks like a five-horse race, with Whitewater now the team to catch,” he said.
Junior Lora Leach continues to lead the singles crew with a 16-1 overall record at No. 1. Senior Vanessa Dingman is 9-7 at No. 2, while sophomore Victoria Pott is 10-6 at No. 3 and sophomore Anna Stephan is 14-2 at No. 4.
In doubles, the No. 2 team of freshman Mackenzie Lindow and sophomore Alison Barth is 14-3 at No. 2. The No. 1 team of senior Hunter Scheel and junior Claudia Pott is 8-6, while the No. 3 team of freshmen Erin Rice and Mikayla Lamping are 14-2.
Lindow said he likes the mix in the lineup of veterans and youngsters – and so far, that recipe is working well.
“Our young kids are playing well, and they will be the key to our success as we get into conference play,” he said. “Our upperclassmen know what they have to do to lead our team.”
East Troy hosted Big Foot Tuesday and Indian Trail Wednesday. The Trojans travel to Whitewater Thursday for a key RVC dual meet.
