The East Troy High School girls tennis team has sprinted from the 2015 starting line.
East Troy capped another stellar week Monday afternoon with a perfect 3-0 record at its own quadrangular.
The sweep improved the Trojans to 13-3 in duals so far to go with their three tournament championships.
So far, so good.
“The kids have worked very hard over the winter and continued that during the summer in our summer tennis clinic,” East Troy coach Dave Lindow said. “Now we are seeing the results.”
Finishing behind East Troy Monday were Edgerton at 2-1, Lake Mills at 1-2 and Brown Deer at 0-3.
East Troy swept all seven spots against Lake Mills.
Winning matches were junior Lora Leach at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0; senior Vanessa Dingman at No. 2, 6-2, 6-0; sophomore Victoria Pott at No. 3, 6-0, 6-0; sophomore Anna Stephan at No. 4, 6-0, 6-0; senior Hunter Scheel and junior Claudia Pott at No. 1 doubles, 6-0, 6-0; freshman Mackenzie Lindow and sophomore Alison Barth at No. 2, 6-0, 6-0; and freshmen Erin Rice an Mikayla Lamping at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0.
The sweeps continued against Brown Deer, as the Trojans again were perfect.
In four singles victories by Leach, Dingman, Pott and Stephan, the Trojans dropped just two games, while the three doubles teams combined to lose just one game.
East Troy closed the quadrangular with a 6-1 win over Edgerton.
Winning at singles were Leach at No. 1, 6-0, 6-1; Dingman at No. 2, 6-1, 6-1; Victoria Pott at No. 3, 6-3, 6-1; and Stephan at No. 4, 6-0, 6-0.
Lindow-Barth at No. 2 doubles won 6-4, 6-2, while Rice-Lamping at No. 3 won 4-6, 6-4 (12-10). The duo of Scheel-Claudia Pott fell 7-5, 6-7 (5), (8-10).
Leach now is 15-1 overall and off to the best start in school history.
“Lora has worked really hard on her game, and she is very consistent right now,” Lindow said. “I’m looking forward to seeing her compete in conference action.”
Another early-season highlight from the singles players, Lindow said, is Stephan, who now is 13-2 overall and has won 12 straight matches.
“She’s a very consistent player and works extremely hard,” he said.
At No. 2 doubles, the duo of Lindow’s daughter, Mackenzie, and Barth have finished first in all four quadrangulars and are off to a 13-3 start. All three of their losses have come on a match tie-breaking point.
“They really work hard and want to see if they can contend for a conference championship at their flight,” Lindow said.
The two freshmen at No. 3 doubles are 14-1 overall to this point.
“They are doing a great job,” Lindow said. “They are just learning how to play together and work really hard.”
East Troy now is idle until Thursday, Sept. 3, when it hosts Edgerton in a 4:15 p.m. Rock Valley Conference opener.
Trojans 2-2 at Altoona
East Troy traveled to Eau Claire Saturday for the Altoona Invitational, and came home with a 2-2 record.
The Trojans defeated Bloomer and Black River Falls 7-0 and fell 4-3 to New Richmond and 6-1 to Altoona.
Lindow said he expects Altoona to be a potential state qualifier this fall.
“Even though the score was lopsided against Altoona, we played a great match and had a lot of great matches,” Lindow said.
Winning matches against Bloomer were Leach at No. 1, 6-1, 6-1; Dingman at No. 2, 6-1, 6-0; Victoria Pott at No. 3, 6-0, 6-0; Stephan at No. 4, 6-1, 6-0; Scheel-Claudia Pott at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 6-1; Lindow-Barth at No. 2, 6-0, 6-1; and Rice-Lamping at No. 3, 6-0, 6-0.
