The East Troy baseball team spent Wednesday’s opening round of the Division 2 regional waiting for an opponent, as the Trojans drew the No. 2 seed and with it, a first-round bye.

East Troy (13-10 overall) will host either third-seeded Catholic Memorial or sixth-seeded Whitewater Friday afternoon at 4:45 p.m.

The winner advances to the sectional next Tuesday, June 9, against ether top-seeded Jefferson, fourth-seeded Racine Lutheran or fifth-seeded Big Foot at a site and time yet to be determined.

East Troy, which finished 9-7 in the RVC North Division, closed its regular season May 27 with a 10-5 non-conference loss at Westosha Central.

The Trojans tied the game at 5-5 in the fifth inning before the Falcons pulled away with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the sixth.

Jason Dopke led East Troy with two hits and two RBI, followed by Will Iloncaie with a hit, a run scored and an RBI and Logan Mitchell and Jacob Schultz, each with a hit and an RBI.

Other offensive leaders included Nick Bertschinger with a run scored, Connor Mitchell with a hit, Evan Wick and Sam Goral with a hit and a run scored and Jon Ciriacks with an RBI.

Bertschinger struck out three batters in four innings of work, followed by Iloncaie and Ruffalo, who combined to allow two walks and struck out one in two innings on the mound.

 Softball season ends

The East Troy softball season came to an end in a Division 2 regional opener last week with a 5-3 loss at Elkhorn.

More details from that game were unavailable. The Trojans finished the season at 4-13 overall.

Elkhorn, the third seed, won the regional with a 4-1, eight-inning win over Whitewater and a 5-3 victory over top-seeded Columbus. The Elks traveled to top-seeded Beloit Turner for a sectional semifinal Tuesday.
