The East Troy High School girls soccer team gave Rock Valley Conference leading McFarland a strong fight Tuesday night.

But the Spartans had one more punch in them than the Trojans.

McFarland scored the game’s only goal in the first half to post a hard-fought 1-0 win. The loss dropped East Troy to 10-8 overall and 9-5 in the RVC, while McFarland improved to 13-1-1 in conference play.

With two matches left in the conference season, McFarland leads Whitewater by a game, as the Whippets are 12-2-1 in the RVC, followed by Big Foot at 11-4, East Troy at 9-5, Evansville at 9-6, Jefferson at 5-9, Palmyra-Eagle at 2-10 and Clinton and Edgerton at 1-13.

The loss Tuesday came on the heels of East Troy’s dominating 7-0 win May 21 at Jefferson.

East Troy led 3-0 at halftime and expanded its advantage with four more goals in the final 45 minutes.

Brianna Casper and Brianna Probst teamed on the Trojans’ first two goals at the 3:00 and 11:01 marks, respectively. Casper added a third goal at the 23-minute mark.

East Troy’s Anna Stephan got into the act at the 57-minute mark off an assist by Monica Zoellner, before Casper added her fourth and fifth goals of the night within 10 seconds of each other.

Joy Salentine had the assist on Casper’s fourth goal, followed by another assist from Probst on the fifth. East Troy closed its scoring on an unassisted goal by Zoellner.

The Trojans were back in action Thursday at Big Foot-Williams Bay, followed by a road contest next Tuesday, June 1, at Edgerton.
