The East Troy High School baseball team hung with Southern Lakes Conference leading Waterford until the bottom of the sixth inning Monday afternoon.
Unfortunately, that’s where it ended.
Waterford blew open a close game with six runs in the sixth en route to an 11-1 win. The game ended there because of the 10-run rule.
East Troy fell to 10-7 overall with the loss.
The Trojans’ lone run came on an RBI hit by Jason Dopke in the sixth inning that scored Evan Wick, who led East Troy with two hits and a run scored.
Will Iloncaie and Dopke, who also doubled, each added two hits.
Nick Ruffalo took the loss for the Trojans, as he pitched 4 1-3 innings, walked three and struck out three. Jacob Schultz pitched two-thirds of an inning and walked five, while Dopke walked two in the sixth inning
The loss Monday came on the heels of an 8-1 Rock Valley Conference win May 8 that improved the Trojans to 7-4 in conference play.
East Troy scored in five of its six at bats to cruise to the win.
Offensive leaders included Wick with two hits, two runs scored and for RBI; Ruffalo with two hits and two runs scored; Iloncaie with two hits and two runs scored; Sam Goral with two hits, a run scored and an RBI; Jon Ciriacks with two hits; Schultz with a hit, two runs scored and two RBI; Connor Mitchell with an RBI; and Logan Mitchell with a hit and a run scored.
Nick Bertschinger went six innings, and allowed three hits, three walks and struck out two to pick up the win. Ciriacks worked the seventh, and allowed a hit, a run, a walk and struck out one.
The run charged to Ciriacks was unearned.
East Troy hosted Jefferson Tuesday and Evansville Saturday. The Trojans host Whitewater next Tuesday afternoon.
