With just a few weeks left, it looks like the East Troy High School boys and girls track teams are well on their way to making plenty of noise here in 2015.

And that’s just what they did Saturday.

The Trojans took a contingent to the Princeton Fastest Four Meet last weekend to see where they stacked up in what many felt was a mini state meet.

Team scores weren’t kept, but plenty of East Troy athletes filled the top eight in the final results.

“The meet went very well,” East Troy coach Josh Herrell said. “The kids went out and competed like it was a state-level meet against top-level competition across the state.”

Leading the way were a pair of school-record efforts by the Trojans.

The 3,200-meter relay team of senior Nate Nguyen, sophomore Evan Harding, senior Charlie Kutschenreuter and junior Jake Remza eclipsed the previous mark of 8:18.99 with a second-place time of 8:18.55.

Herrell said the team’s effort was highlighted by a 1:58.7 split turned in by Kutschenreuter, his fastest ever.

The second record of the day came from Jake Wendt in the shot put.

Wendt, who already owned the school record of 53-11, easily set a new mark Saturday with a winning toss of 58-5 – which came on the heels of a toss of 56-2 on his previous attempt.

“I was coaching long jump at the time and heard everyone yell and saw Jake’s hands up in the air, so I started to run over to that area to see what he did,” Herrell said.

“It was truly unbelievable. Not only did Jake win the meet and destroy the school record, his (toss) ranks him No. 1 in Wisconsin, regardless of any division and is nationally ranked as well.”

Also winning events Saturday were Katrina Santos in the long jump (16-1 1/2) and Miles Kilpin in the discus (160-9).

Other top-eight finishes on the boys’ side were the 1,600-meter relay team of Harding, Remza, Nguyen and Kutschenreuter, third (3:30.01); Kilpin, fourth in the shot put (52-0); Wendt, third in the discus (151-8); and Anthony Leahy, fourth in the high jump (5-10).

Placing in the top eight for the East Troy girls were the 1,600-meter relay team of Katie Hodges, Erin Parr, Charlotte Plehn and Hope Schneider, third (4:14.9); the 3,200-meter team of Hodges, Parr, Plehn and Heather Vivian, third (10:09.22); Schneider, third in the high jump (5-2); Santos, fourth in the high jump (5-0) and fifth in the triple jump (34-8);

Dodge, fifth in the discus (114-10) and 16th in the shot put (32-3); the 400-team of M.E. Dodge, Callie Vogel, Schneider and Katie Zewiske, sixth (53.12); Vivian, seventh in the high jump (4-10); the 800-team of Dodge, Santos, Schneider and Vogel, eighth (1:53.14); Vogel, eighth in the triple jump (33-7); and Schneider, ninth in the long jump (13-9 3/4).

Herrell said Vogel’s triple jump ranks her ninth all time in school history.

East Troy was back in action Tuesday night at the Rock Valley Conference North Division Meet at Edgerton. The Trojans also will compete at the Beloit Turner Invitational Friday.

Trojans end dual seasons

Earlier in the week, both East Troy teams closed out their dual meet seasons with easy wins over Edgerton.

The boys finished undefeated in RVC duals with a 92-54 victory, while the girls closed at 4-1 with a 114-32 win. East Troy’s girls won their last three dual meets by 50 or more points.

Winning events for the boys were Kutschenreuter in the 100 (11.92), 200 (24.0), 400 (55.81) and long jump (18-11 1/4); Brody Kazik in the 3,200 (10:42.15); Harding in the 1,600 (4:44.9) and 800 (2:11.39); Wendt in the shot put (53-6) and discus; Remza in the 300-hurdles (45.69); and Leahy in the high jump (6-0).

First-place finishes for the girls were recorded by Tori Miller in the 100-hurdles (17.45); Schneider in the 200 and the high jump (5-4, career best, second in school history); Plehn in the 400 (1:05.36); Santos in the 800 (2:38.14), long jump (15-8 1/2) and triple jump (33-4 3/4); Parr in the 1,600 (5:32.61) and 3,200 (12:50.58); Sydney Scadden in the 300-hurdles (52.75); and Dodge in the shot (32-9 1/2) and discus (121-11).

“The kids are really performing well,” Herrell said.
