Soccer team falls short in game against McFarland

In an early-season matchup with first place in the RVC on the line Monday, the East Troy girls soccer team came up just short in a 5-2 loss at McFarland.

The loss dropped East Troy to 4-2 in the RVC and 4-4 overall. Big Foot and McFarland remain tied for first at 5-1, followed by East Troy, Evansville and Whitewater, all at 4-2.

Specific details about the game, other than the score, were not available Tuesday morning. Goalie Jessica Gulig was credited with 15 saves and Brianna Casper an assist.

In a home matchup last Thursday with Jefferson, the Trojans scored two first-half goals and added four more in the second in a 6-0 victory.

Casper had the hat trick with three goals, while Monica Zoellner had two and Brianna Probst one. Probst added three assists, while Zoellner and Anna Stephan each had one.

Gulig had one save for the Trojans.

East Troy opened the week last Tuesday with a 3-0 non-conference loss to Southern Lakes Conference foe Waterford. Gulig had eight saves in defeat.

The Trojans were back in action Thursday at Big Foot, and then will host the East Troy Invitational Saturday at 9 a.m. The Trojans host Evansville next Monday, May 4, at 6:45 p.m.
