After a close loss in the first game of a doubleheader with Whitewater, the East Troy High School baseball team got even before the end of the day.
The Trojans lost a 3-2 decision in the first game, Saturday, then recovered for an 8-0 win.
Will Iloncaie started the game for East Troy and pitched six of the seven innings, allowing five hits and three earned runs. Jason Dopke entered in relief and pitched a scoreless inning, but the Trojans were unable to get the game-tying run in the bottom of the seventh.
Josh Oswald had a hit and an RBI for East Troy; Dopke and Logan Parsons scored one run each.
The loss snapped a five-game win streak by East Troy; but in the second game, the Trojans left no room for doubt.
Oswald started and pitched the first 6 innings of the shutout, while Nick Ruffalo finished it. Oswald also had the big game at the late, with three hits, five RBI and two runs scored. He was involved in seven of East Troy’s eight runs.
Nick Bertshcinger added a hit, an RBI and scored a run; Connor Mitchell had two runs scored via a pair of walks. He was one of the many patient batters for East Troy, which collected eight walks, though just one arrived in their high-scoring first inning.
The Trojans posted five runs in the first inning and forced Whitewater to make a pitching change for the second. But they continued to add to their lead, while Oswald held Whitewater scoreless.
East Troy allowed only five hits and three walks in the game; Oswald had seven strikeouts.
The doubleheader split with Whitewater dropped East Troy from the ranks of the undefeated in the Rock Valley Conference North, to a 5-1 record. That put the Trojans in a tie for second with McFarland and half a game behind Jefferson in first at 6-1.
The Trojans begin the May portion of their schedule by playing at Edgerton, Thursday, then playing at Elkhorn, Friday. They play their first four May games on the road, before returning home on May 10 to face Jefferson.
