The East Troy High School volleyball team completed their quest for a fourth undefeated Rock Valley Conference season in a row with easy wins over Jefferson and Edgerton last week.
The Trojans traveled to Jefferson as the large Eagle crowd cheered farewell to their senior members. The Eagles took the emotion of Senior Night and battle East Troy tough to start the match.
The back-and-fourth play continued until Brittney Jakscht used her serving talents to go on a huge 11-point run. The short serves caused all sorts of fits for the Eagles and East Troy would easily cruise to a 25-8 game one victory.
In the second game the tough Jefferson team reappeared once again as East Troy’s level began to drop. Both teams battled to an early 6-6 tie before East Troy would pick up their game.
The new level allowed East Troy to build a large lead as they finished on another huge serving run. This time Katie Hodges, a Junior defensive specialist finished the game on an eight-point scoring run, taking the game 25-10.
The Black and Gold completed the easy sweep of the match as they jumped to a 14-1 lead and never looked back. The Trojans continued their aggressive serving strategy which allowed East Troy many free points as they took the game in dominate fashion 25-9.
M.E. Dodge led with 12 kills and 3.5 blocks. Brittney Jakscht tallied 32 assists while Mykie Olsen added 9 digs. Hodges, Dodge, and Jakscht all teamed up with three aces each to round out the stat leaders.
Rock Valley Conference play completed Oct. 10 when Edgerton hosted the Trojans. Edgerton seemed beat even before the first whistle blew as the Tide had no answer for East Troy’s offense. The Trojans quickly took an 11-4 lead before Edgerton was forced to call an early timeout. East Troy would continue to roll and ended game one up 25-13.
Games two and three were mirror images of each other as in both games East Troy took early leads, which grew, and easily finished with identical scores 25-9 and 25-9. Bryzena Santos led the Trojans with eight kills and 3.5 blocks. Brittney Jakscht added 35 assists while Mykie Olsen notched 11 digs. Kelsey Kiesow, Myranda Dallas, and Olsen each had two aces to round out the leaders.
After sweeping conference play, going 10-0, East Troy will next take the number one seed to the year-end Rock Valley Conference Tournament. Head coach Jeremy Weis noted just how much of an accomplishment this was.
“It is tough to run the table in conference. Tougher yet this group of seniors have done it four years in a row,” said Weis.
The RVC Tournament will be hosted by Edgerton on Saturday, Oct. 19. This will be East Troy’s final tune up before they head into the WIAA playoffs.
